A24 'X' Trilogy Box Set Issues

Post by eg005 »

I preordered the X Trilogy box set on A24's website on 4K blu-ray but can't get my drive or MakeMKV to read the discs. it might be just me or are these discs actually defective to my computer? I'm only trying to make sense of it since they won't play on my LG BP60NB10 but the discs are recognized by and play on my PS5. I get "No Disc" errors on all 3 movies on MakeMKV. I can't find any info on this issue since this is a recent release. I've tried other 4Ks like The Mask from Arrow Video and that one got recognized by the software. The day before I was also able to rip other films, so I'm not sure what's going on.

Not sure but my 4K copies ripped without issue. If all copies failed then it’s possible it’s a hardware issue with your particular drive. Did you try to power cycle the drive? Restart the software? Update to the latest makeMKV version? Did you update your Java?

I’ve gotten some weird errors with some newer titles but have still been able to rip.

I do use the following docker instance of makeMKV https://hub.docker.com/r/jlesage/makemkv which usually gets updated to most current version in a few days of release.

With no disc errors, the first thing to always do is clean the discs. Even if they are new and pristine, give' em a clean! It often helps. Also, let the OS initialise the disc before opening up MakeMKV.
Cheers :D

I did give cleaning the discs a try. I also tried switching between cables, doing a power cycle, restarting the software, etc. nothing seems to work unfortunately

UPDATE: turns out the laser was a bit dirty rather than the discs. cleaning it with the appropriate cloth looks to have fixed it now that my computer recognizes the first disc after doing so. :)
