I have 2 discs that refuse to rip, I just doubt the keys havent been generated as they was released in December 2022 (Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends, from the Halloween Trilogy 4K edition). I feel like as it was released so long ago, and the fact the first disc (Halloween) ripped fine means something else is up and its not missing keys? I reinstalled MakeMKV despite being on the latest version just to make sure it downloaded the latest HK and I can see in the logs that it did, Downloading latest HK to C:\Users\xxxx/.MakeMKV ... but I just get the Saved AACS dump file and The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted error for both. Can I check if the keys are in the HK MakeMKV downloaded?

To my knowledge, no you can't see the contents of the HK file. However, if they're not ripping and dump files are being created you can feel confident that your discs are not in the HK database. Just because the movies were releases a long time ago, it doesn't mean your specific disc IDs were dumped. The same movie can have many variants. Submit your dump files.

Most likely, your disks are not in MakeMKV's "hashed keys" database. Another possibility might be that your drive has not enabled LibreDrive, which would prevent MakeMKV from decrypting your disks even if their Unit Keys were already known.

You could also check whether the public KEYDB.cfg file contains your keys. Just copy this file into MakeMKV's data directory (i.e. where MakeMKV also writes its TGZ dump files) and restart MakeMKV.

I have ripped other 4K discs with my Verbatim 43888 drive just fine, and MakeMKV says its LibreDrive enabled so confident the drive is fine. I have downloaded the keydb.cfg and have checked it and can see the films in the file, but again, still wont decrypt. Not sure if maybe its a different version in the keydb.cfg like you and others have said could be the case for the HK db, but again, not sure how to verify that.

Does MakeMKV ever log when it succesfully downloads the HK db, as I can see that downloads starts, but no confirmation it completes. Not sure if that is normal behaviour or not, but just concered that some DNS providers block access to the DB server so worried maybe it isnt getting downloaded correctly? I am using cloudflare DNS

There are usually several different variants of each disk, and there's no guarantee that either MakeMKV's "hashed keys" database or KEYDB.cfg will contain them all. All you can do is email your TGZ dump files to svq@makemkv.com and wait, and possibly try to share them here as well. However, if your Verbatim 43888 drive contains a Pioneer UD04 then I doubt The Powers That KEYDB will be able to help you . (Although you also seem to be using Windows, so make KEYDB + Xreveal could work?)

Sharing your TGZ dump files here would allow people to offer you a more informed opinion though .

Thanks for these. Could you also include the AACS/MKB_RO.inf files from their physical UHD disks please? The copies of these files inside the TGZ dump files have been truncated to only 56 bytes, which makes them unusable to anyone except MakeMKV itself.

Note that MKB_RO.inf files are big, so you will need to ZIP them.
