Hello!

A few months ago I purchased two of these drives from Amazon DE and just started ripping with them today. I started the day ripping 4k UHD's with both drives just fine, no problems. After a few rips with each drive one of the drives will no longer rip UHD, but will still rip standard blu ray, albeit at a very slow 2.0 speed. The other drive is still ripping UHD's at 4.0 speed. Here is the info of the drive in MKV, along with the error I am getting. Any ideas why it started ripping UHD just fine, but now no longer will and will only rip blu ray at a slow speed?

I'm a little baffled at the end of the error it mentions "LibreDrive compatible drive is required to open this disc - video can't be decrypted." But from the drive information below in indicates "Enabled," and I was ripping UHD just fine before it started doing this. I've tried five or six more discs and it just keeps giving me this error. Thank you!

Unplug the drive for a minute then plug it back in. Ensure the OS initialises the disc before you open MakeMKV.

That did not work, but I kept trying different things and found something working...for now anyway. So I have four ripping drives I have connected to a dock, so I am ripping four movies at a time. And all four had been working just fine simultaneously, and then this one just stopped working for UHD's, giving me that error. I tried what you mentioned and I still kept getting that error, however, I tried plugging the drive directly into my laptop instead of the dock, and it's working...for now anyway.

It does, and it is 130w.

Good. very strange though. Maybe that USB port is faulty? Can you try switching the drive to another port or switch another drive to that port?

That doesn't work either. I tried it on every port of the dock and it will not do UHD, blu ray only.

And wonderful... I start my ripping today and now BOTH of these drives are giving me this error. I'm unsure if they just don't like being plugged into the dock or what. But the second drive ripped probably a dozen UHD's yesterday with zero problems. So I got maybe 3 out of the first one before it started doing this, and the second drive worked perfectly yesterday for about 12 UHD's, and the first time I try it today I get this same error. So bizarre!

My ASUS BW-16D1HT plugged into the same dock hasn't had so much as a single hiccup, just cruising right through. I bought these two Pioneers to help speed along ripping my 450 UHD's and 1,000 blu ray; with the intention of using the two Pioneers to do the heavy lifting with the UHD's. Turns out I didn't even get 20 total between the two of them.

It seems that libredrive didn't activate and the drive's certificate was revoked. This has happened to me once before with a 43888 and a reboot of the drive and MakeMKV fixed it. That's why the first thing I said to you was to unplug the drive for a minute before plugging it in again.

Can you not use the hub and just connect the drive direct to the PC ports?

Well...knock on wood and I hope I'm not speaking too soon, but I have two USB PC ports so I plugged each drive into one and both just ripped a UHD successfully. 🤷‍♂️

your symptom of the ripping process working fine at first for the first few discs then later not for subsequent discs may be a sign of overheating. im not sure what kind of dock or how the drives are mounted inside or on the dock. but does the dock get hot during and/or after ripping 4 drives simultaneously?

carefully touch the surface of the dock very slowly and gently to avoid moving, jarring or disturbing the drives while the discs are spinning to avoid damaging the disc motor servo for spinning the discs. does the surface of the drives themselves also get hot?

WARNING: if its a slim laptop mobile drive do NOT touch or press on the top cover of the bare drive. these slim laptop mobile drives are fragile and typically come with a warning on the drive sticker: "do not press on top cover, apply pressure or drop the drive."

so handle them only by the sides unless already mounted in an external enclosure to protect them. so which one gets hot? only the drives, dock or both? hopefully this may pinpoint the problem.

the libredrive compatibility glitches may be temporarily caused by either the dock's chipset overheating, the drive's chipset overheating or both. i saw the dock's power adapter was 130w! this is not a power problem per se but rather a power and heat dissipation problem, gobbling up too much power and producing too much heat and causing the hardware to malfunction. 130w is equivalent to the heat dissipated by an overclocked quad-core cpu! try blowing a powerful usb fan at your dock during operation and see if it acts up anymore. then post back here with the results and tell us what worked and what didnt work.

edit: it can also be caused by the drive's blue laser overheating and malfunctioning because BDXL UHD discs have 3 layers and are more stressful for the laser to read through 3 layers. on the other hand, standard blu-ray movie discs are only 2 layers and thus less stressful for the laser to handle.

furthermore, if the discs themselves overheat too much during reading, it can cause unwanted thermal expansion of the disc causing the laser to not be able to focus properly or not read the land and pits on the disc surface properly thus causing reading errors.
