Question about Top Gun rip options

Ripping my first couple of UHD disks. When I load Top Gun or Top Gun I see two options for the main title, one with chapters and one without. I'm guessing that they're the same film on the disk, just with chapter options for one of them. Is that correct? They're the same size, I'm just interested to know if this is a standard thing with rips to have that option or if there's anything that would be different between the options.

Edit to ask about extras
According to a review, the disk includes the following two extras

On Your Six: Thirty Years of Top Gun (2160p, 31 min)
Looking Back
America's Best
Into the Danger Zone
Going Ballistic
Narrow Targets and the Future
The Legacy of Top Gun (2160p, 6 min)

However, makemkv has put the 5 sections of On Your Six as separate items. Is there a way to get it to create them as a single watchable item.

Thanks.

As you mentioned, the only differences is that one version has chapters and the other doesn't. I always rip the version with the chapters.

Depends on the disc. In some instances, you'll find an item that is equivalent to a "Play All" for those types of special features. Take a look at the items and see if one of them refers to each of the separate titles. I looked at my Top Gun special features rip and On You Six should have that title.

If it doesn't, you can use Handbrake to combine files or split files.

Thanks very much Toker, that really helps.

Today I've installed Java and it's now giving me names of the files. Having gone through them all one by one, I've discovered there's one that is all of them joined together and the others are all the individual sections, a bit confusing but got there in the end. Still very much a newbie at ripping disks like that.

Thanks again.

When you click a file on the left, look at the lower right pane and you will see the file info and segment list. You should only be looking at the .mpls playlist files, not the individual .m2ts files.

Ah, thanks very much, I’ll try that next time.
