I have a Ghostbusters 2016 disc that rips about 40ish percent through and then MakeMKV pops up an error "Fatal error occurred, program will now exit."

I have turned on debug logging and attached the log below. In the log the last items I see is

004004:0000 The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00001.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset 25226508288, attempting to work around
001003:0020 DEBUG: Code 2 at M3/FTQ1OhsW1YljX41~D:121263475

Usually there is an error about not being able to read the disc which I experienced if a disc itself had issues. In this case MakeMKV crashes out so I'm not sure in this case. I have two drives capable of ripping 4K Blurays and MakeMKV exhibits the same behaviour with this disc in both drives.

Is this an MakeMKV issue or a disc issue?

It certainly looks like a damaged disc, but MakeMKV should not crash on it, it's a bug.
Try making a full disc backup (non-decrypted) first, and see if you'll have better luck opening the backup.

I returned the disc and they didn't have more stock so got a refund and forgot about this thread. The movie was on special again and my son still wanted it so I just repurchased it today, ran it through MakeMKV, and about half way through it did the same thing. Two copies of the same movie purchased from different stores months apart, and the same issue.

I'm still using MakeMKV 1.17.2 by the looks. I will try with 1.17.3 later.

I updated to 1.17.3 and the disc seemed to copy okay. It did report errors however It didn't prevent the completion of the file, and also it played fine afterwards.
