I have a fully patched BU40N drive that rips all DVDs and Blurays. It can see the UHD disks and titles but always fails with an AACS error of failure to decrypt.
Drive Information
OS device name: /dev/sr0
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BU40N
Revision: 1.04
Serial number: MO1K43D4058
Firmware date: 2120-05-06 11:42
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 76
LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.04
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes
Disc Information
Label: INDEPENDENCE_DAY
Timestamp: 2016-03-30 13:09:31
Data capacity: 59.23 Gb
Disc type: BD-ROM UHD
Number of layers: 2
Bus encryption flags: 80
MakeMKV v1.16.3 linux(x64-release) started
Using LibreDrive mode (v06.2 id=FA108BB7DA63)
Using direct disc access mode
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Saved AACS dump file as /home/will/Videos/MKB20_v60_Independence_Day_0C81.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc
This error is on all my UHD disks. It is a UHD drive, so what do I need to do, if anything?
Thanks in advance.

Ensure that MakeMKV has internat acces enabled in preferences so that the UHD volume keys can be downloaded. You are also using an old MakeMKV version. Might need to check for an update.

I have the internet access enabled, so that is not the problem. This version is the latest flatpak version. I am so not interested in compiling from source because I always break my system when I go rogue with that avenue. I will check the Win10 latest version. I do believe my installed version is not the problem. I can not rip any UHD, even older ones that predate my version by many years. This very disk listed, Independence Day, is from 2016 and my Makemkv version is from earlier this year. Should I upload this AACS dump file it saved? Would that help solve the problem?

Hi,
Is there any way to download UHD volume keys and integrate with MakeMKV? I see in the forum a spreadsheet of all known UHD disks. Couldn't these be integrated with the SDF file that MakeMKV downloads when it first opens?

will

Hi MartyMcNuts,
I booted my ancient Win10 OS and it works. I guess the thugs of Linus need to up their game.
Thanks,
Will

I am also having this same problem. It will work on a Windows Machine but it doesn't work on Linux.

Flash to 1.00 BU40N in the de pack and see if it works on both

I had the same issue, works on Windows 11 but not on Linux (unRaid). Flashed to 1.00 and now it works. Is there any disadvantage to using the older firmware version or is it irrelevant and I can just continue using it without a problem?
