I'm using a NVIDIA SHIELD TV as both the Plex server and player to playback some makemkv rips of UHD blu-ray discs and I'm having issues. I don't know if it's the MKV or the media server/player. The Hobbit Extended cuts and Fellowship of the Ring all make Plex crash after playing just fine for a few minutes.

Has anybody else had issues with this? Any ideas on how best to debug the problem and ensure the MKV files are solid? TIA

I have extracted both titles that you mentioned from UHD using MakeMKV. The files are on my NAS with Plex Server running from there and I use an Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) to play them on my TV. I have not had the issues you are describing. Playback is smooth.

Was having a similar issue on the 2019 Shield TV tube model, and it was largely resolved by the recent 9.0.0 update. Not sure if the 2017 models are getting the same update, but it seems like it may have been a firmware issue.
