Donnie Darko 4K UHD Errors

Hello,

I attempted to create an MKV of the Donnie Darko 4K UHD (theatrical disc) and experienced some issues (listed below).

The debug code at the end is repeated a bunch (probably until I cancelled the operation) - the number incrementing by 256 each time (e.g., Code 512, etc.)

Any ideas as to what the issue is? Some type of copy protection or specific mastering method?

There's a mastering problem with the theatrical disk. Arrow are working on it. Looks like a replcement disk will be needed.

The Directors cut rips fine

I had no problems ripping an MKV from the theatrical disc, and it played fine. Full disclosure I used a different tool for the rip to MKV.

What are you using for playback? I've tried a few different methods for ripping and converting to mkv and it still plays jerky on VLC or MPC-HC or directly on a 4K TV.

I used an Oppo 203 player, played direct from USB drive.

I ran into the same issues trying to rip my Theatrical Cut disc with MakeMKV. It eventually timed out after getting read errors for a few hours.

For the stuttering playback issue, its been acknowledged as a manufacturing problem by Arrow. It seems to impact specific players more than others and a replacement program for discs have been suggested.

That's actually one of the reasons I was trying to rip the disc. I was curious if the stuttering would be present in the .mkv file vs being played directly off the disc. Wanted to share here for anyone with the similar experiences, it's not just you.

I waited until this was hopefully all sorted out but the Theatrical Cut disc still displays the stuttering errors that plagued the first batch. My disc show different batch codes to those on this page https://www.arrowfilms.com/blog/news/do ... programme/ too so whatever the error is seems to have found its way into another run. The Director's cut plays fine.
