Hi guys,

after successefully creating mkvs with makemkv from UHD I realized interruptions playing them with VLC (version 3.0.2) on my Intel MacBook Pro (2019/Big Sur). Increasing local caching up to 10.000 ms did not help. My VLC can manage non-UHD mkvs without any trouble.

Quicktime does not open UHD mkvs and complains about unknown file format. But I don't like Quicktime anyway.

Do you have any recomandations for a good player app on macos, which deals with UHD mkvs? I'm fine to pay for it, if it works.

Dvdfab has a player for Mac OS, cost varies on how long you want the license to last. I use the Windows version though. It has a trial period.

I use MPV (https://mpv.io) on my Mac all the time. I installed it with Homebrew (https://brew.sh). I've heard about IINA (https://iina.io) but I haven't tried it.

IINA works well for me.

Infuse Pro is on my ATV. I back up my discs into BDMV folders and let infuse stream them off Windows 10 Pro box where the rips live.
I believe Infuse does MKV as well.

Sorry I spaced out on the MacOS requirement.
I don’t actually know of one. Love to see the DVDfab player but it seems you get to the $265 price tag really quick lol. Not sure I can drop that on DVDfab right now

I"ve never had any pausing issues with UHD disks and VLC on any of my macs. Are you playing them across a network, or are they stored on the mac that you are playing them on?

VLC works just fine for me. Also of note, Infuse is launching a macOS app also!

infuse pro beta working fine on my M1 Mac Mini.

VLC too and plex, but infuse is my go to even in beta.
