Convert working SATA UHD drive to USB?

I have a Blu-Ray drive that I use to convert UHD discs. It works great (don't remember the model off the top of my head - but it was one of the original recommended drives back when UHD first was doable). I am looking at building a new PC, and would prefer to use the drive as a USB drive. If I get a USB 3 drive enclosure, will the drive work as before, or will that cause problems?

It works normally in a USB enclosure, at least the Vantec one which is the only one I've tried.

The drives guide has a list of recommended enclosures to use.
