Whats a good checklist of things to check outside of a software or hardware error for 4k rips/ backups that fail
Clean disk
Restart drive
Restart software
Having issues with a star trek 2009 disk that should work, every other disk does. There are a few scratches but not many.
Anything else i should get in habit of checking before posting logs or reinstalling software?

UHD disc with scratches is dead for ripping.
you can try polishing them out that might make it work but you need a perfect disc

Optical drive "BD-RE ASUS BW-16D1HT 3.10d" opened in OS access mode.
Using LibreDrive mode (v06.2 id=0FA242DD4D0B)
Backing up disc into folder "/Volumes/mymovies2/STAR TREK 2009"
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
