I suspect it depends on whether MakeMKV is using its traditional hashed keys to decrypt the disc or whether it is using libredrive.

I have some undecyypted ISO's which makemkv will not decypt. When I put the original disc in the drive it can decrypt them but only using libredrive mode, so I assume that is the reason it can't decrypt the ISO of the same disc.

That is not correct. LibreDrive is not decrypting anything. All decryption requires a key. Makemkv for quite some time now downloads the keys automatically. LibreDrive has nothing to do with it.
