Check this out, what a mess :)
interesting...

I've compared HDR10/DV/SDR on the internal player and DV is a lot brighter than HDR10...

And this one: so it's confirmed that DoVi config of internal players are screwed :) That's a good thing!
Also, that it can be mitigated by calibration (as you can see my results), if that's right: you only have to know the peak of the C2 for different presets and upload the config file; or wait for the fw fix.
I wouldn't do any comparison until then, it's pointless now :)

The L1 bug is still there with the Oppo and still works with internal Plex, so it's not the tonemapping peak that queitvoid thought of, it must be something else, possibly with the DoVi engine (I verified that the uploaded Cinema setting peak also works with internal Plex).
We have to wait a fix for that one as well.

The internal player of my LG E7P TV will trigger Dolby Vision only when I play profile 5 DV mp4s. The internal player always falls back to HDR10 after I remux profile 8 DV mkvs into profile 8 DV mp4s. So, for me, the only solution was using ffmpeg to extract audio/video from a profile 8 DV mkv and then using mp4remuxer to put the resulting files into an mp4 with the command that starts with "mp4remuxer --dv-profile 5". Have any of you had problems triggering DV when playing profile 8 DV mp4s with the internal players of your LG TVs?

Guys, just an offtopic question: is there any reason to upgrade from a Sony X700 to a Sony X800m2 in terms of picture quality? An increase in PQ (however slight) would certainly make me buy one, now after member @RESET_9999 taught me how to properly remux Dolby Vision files and play them on the Sony?

Thanks

yeah, I'll just stick to HDR10 for now. Hopefully they fix the issue. What a joke Dolby is though, just like Apple!!!
For fun I did the same comparison on my C8, and DV behaves much better but seems also brighter(nothing like on the C2). HDR10 lower range might be too dark on my C8. SDR is calibrated at 100nits.

I laugh when I read about filmmaker mode this generation all the time

More like throw spaghetti at the wall mode, all of it

Even the 'just let displays clip off' in hdr10 mode was a dumb basic decision of the format/generation/whatever

@ragico just tested and it's working in MP4 P8 DVH1 + LPCM audio.

sample: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lsSQUU ... sp=sharing

so we dont have to use fake P5 on the ATV, this is great news.

Apple native player = DV with rpu working
PLEX = DV but rpu not working
Infuse = HDR10
So ATV plays P8 which is great news, looks like we need to use fake P5 to achieve that! Thanks a lot @sw5163 for finding a way!!

With fake P5 I read earlier in the thread that Infuse doesn't work, how about Plex? Or do I need to use Apple native player? and sadly MKV was out of question. Sigh, always extra hassle with apple..

I think I found a huge bug on the x700/ x800m2 / C2, even worse than the red push or the lack of FEL support :(
The L1 brightness changes are totally different than the C2 internal plex and the Shield(which have newer DV engine) but L2 looks exactly the same on all the devices.
By different I mean they are much much less noticeable on the x700/ x800m2 . like 400% difference, no exaggeration. Even less noticeable than Windows 10 HDR10 P8 playback lol.

If you take the out-of-sync version of the Spears and Munsil clip, because the trim passes are active with L1 at the same time, you can barely see a difference between all the devices.
But if you strip out the trims by generating new metadata with madVR (just L1), then again a big difference in the L1 brightness changes.
Tried MP4 / TS, and it makes no difference.cmv2.9, cmv4.0, old mp4muxer, new mp4muxer.

maybe the newer DV engine of the C2/shield vs the older one from x700/x800m2 cause the issue?
I guess I have to connect my old C8 to find out...

pattern to reproduce:
quietvoid's rpu test: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hAv4eJ ... sp=sharing
SM clip out of sync original: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BxsK7- ... sp=sharing
SM clip out of sync no L2 (madvr): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CuWlHK ... sp=sharing

########################################################################################################################
EDIT: no issue on the C8 + x700/x800m2 vs internal player, L1 changes as pronounced as on the C2/shield.
so it looks like there's something going on when using a CMv2.9 HDMI device to a CMv4.0 TV... Or maybe just something with my C2, I hope people with C1,CX will do the same test
I guess I just lost fel and lossless audio support :(

bug confirmed on:

LG C2 + x700 + x800m2
LG G2 + oppo: viewtopic.php?p=124746#p124746
LG C1 + x800m2: viewtopic.php?p=124749#p124749 & viewtopic.php?p=124868#p124868
Sony X900H + x800m2 https://www.avsforum.com/threads/offici ... t-61832553

Confirmed TVs without the bug/issue on:
CX or older
EDIT 2: mmm, the CX apparently supports cmv4.0 and doesnt seem to be affected by the bug with the Sony X700.

videos showing the L1 issue on LG C2:
LG C2 plex:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjK6JbcwsZg

Sony X800m2 + C2 (so dim that you almost can't see it for L1):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tsJhxHl2W8

Nvidia Shield + C2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j64ZsY8yhfw
Just tried the test file on the Sony X700 player connected to a Sony A80J OLED. No problems that I could perceive, the brightness changes are very noticable. Is this bug affecting only newer LG models and some older Sony models that supported only player led DoVi (before 2021)?

Plex definitely works, all tests are working properly.
@Manixx2020beyound tested Infuse and it worked:

Yes, Infuse triggers DV but no Rpu.
I tried the latest version of Infuse on my iPad, it also failed.
So im guessing maybe on their early version they passthrough DV to Apple and it worked, however on later version they thought it wasn't right and play it as HDR10.

Therefore, any APP that passthrough DV content should be fine.
If you want to make sure, test these files on APP you are going to use.

Theoretically, it's possible to develop a player on Apple that plays P7 FEL MKV and discard EL just like Shield.

OK, so I misunderstood what he said, and it seems that's a different issue (overbrightening low-mid leves in all content in all inputs) from the peak brightness in different inputs (that can be fixed with uploading a config).

Indeed, Dolby can get away with everything in the industry due to its monopl position.
And they are clever guys, how to make money out of industry :)

I guess due to the L1 bug: Shall we bet on whether Dolby fixes it in the next fw (that we wait for 2 months now)? :)
Btw, awesome work, again, thanks!

So what is the conclusion on the latest bug(s) with DoVi and the LG C1(+) ?

Should DoVi only be played using the LG internal player for now?

Yes, I checked it multiple times. But I am interested in the picture quality that the respective players produce. Is there any difference at all? I can't find a direct comparison or side-by-side video anywhere online.

as far as i can tell, there is no PQ difference. the x800m2 has just fewer bugs.

DV is broken on the 2022 models, I have to wait for the update before doing more comparison and deciding which one is better.

I use a dv tv as monitor & widows app this is the playback I get from windows app
This is probably as close to dv on a pc with mp4, pc is in hdr mode when dv kicks in.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bEHAjx ... p=drivesdk
you forgot to mention that you have to use the Vertex to trick windows into thinking you have a DV monitor. :)
True lol
A bit off topic,
Getting playback from external apps as well
Just tested Netflix, vudu,Disney on my PC with this config all apps playback in doblyvision with corresponding dv tittles
(Doblyvision logo) is present apon playback as well in both doblyvision & atmos,
Tested Grayman
Bitrate from the PC version vs x700 version
Huge diff:)
