Scsi error with UHD

Hi

I want to make the jump to UHD.

However, I've yet to figure out a working setup for either playback or decryption which allows quick access to my backup copies. Using a computer drive is even faster than VHS on a 20TB My Book Duo, so I was looking to move away from loadings, and warnings, and menus with unnecessary animation and errors if I want to skip any of them with UHD, as there is no way back once you get used to such configuration :)

FFmpeg has done miracles so far to convert a batch of mkv:
H.264 @ 23.976 fps –Blu-ray
for %i in (*.mkv) do (ffmpeg -i %i -c:v libx264 -crf 11 -c:a ac3 -b:a 448k %~ni.mp4)
H.264 @ 29.97 fps –Blu-ray
for %i in (*.mkv) do (ffmpeg -i %i -c:v libx264 -crf 11 -vf yadif -c:a ac3 -b:a 448k %~ni.mp4)
PR422 @ 23.976 fps –Blu-ray
for %i in (*.mkv) do (ffmpeg -i %i -c:v prores -profile:v 0 -c:a ac3 -b:a 448k %~ni.mp4)
PR422 @ 29.97 fps –Blu-ray
for %i in (*.mkv) do (ffmpeg -i %i -c:v prores -profile:v 0 -vf yadif -c:a ac3 -b:a 448k %~ni.mp4)
PR444 @ 23.976 fps –Blu-ray
for %i in (*.mkv) do (ffmpeg -i %i -c:v prores_ks -profile:v 4 -pix_fmt yuv444p10 -c:a ac3 -b:a 448k %~ni.mp4)
PR444 @ 29.97 fps –Blu-ray

H.264 @ 23.976 fps –DVD
for %i in (*.mkv) do (ffmpeg -i %i -c:v libx264 -crf 11 -vf setdar=16:9,dejudder,fps=30000/1001,fieldmatch,decimate -c:a ac3 -b:a 448k %~ni.mp4)
H.264 @ 29.97 fps –DVD
for %i in (*.mkv) do (ffmpeg -i %i -c:v libx264 -crf 11 -vf setdar=16:9,yadif -c:a ac3 -b:a 448k %~ni.mp4)
First problem
Unable to read UHD with PowerDVD18.
> Intel SGX runtime is required to play Ultra HD Blu-rays. Please click [install] to install SGX PSW runtime now. Error code: 21201
> The installation was unsuccessful because this platform does not support SGX, or is disabled in BIOS.
I couldn't find SGX in BIOS of ASUS ROG RAMPAGE VI. This is where I'm stuck.

Second problem
Unable to get through AACS2.0/C v61.
> Using ASUS BC-12D2HT 3.01 or LG WH16NS60 1.01 with MakeMKV 1.14.1 and 7.11.2018 "keys_hashed".
MakeMKV v1.14.1 win(x64-release) started
Using direct disc access mode
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT PRESENT' occurred while issuing SCSI command A30..0020..03F to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom0'
(…)
Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT ESTABLISHED' occurred while issuing SCSI command AD010..080002400 to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom0'
Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive
Saved AACS dump file as C:\Users\thier/.MakeMKV/MKB20_v61_Ready_Player_One_0655.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc
I've tried ASUS BC-12D2HT (friendly) and it didn't came with 3.00 installed. Then I've tried LG WH16NS60 (official) but it didn't came with 1.00 installed. I'd like to try the WH16NS58 or WH16NS40 but I've been told they were friendly drives that couldn't read AACS 2, that an official drive with maybe 1.0 would work for decryption as well. I am out of solution and money to throw on drives that cannot do what I want...

The MakeMKV failure appears to be due lack of a hash key... which can be caused by a number of things. You should thoroughly read thru:

as well as all the referenced resources.

1. “First problem” - You are trying to go down a completely unecessary path for playback with SGX. Let go of PowerDVD as there are way better options out there for proper UHD playback on PCs and they do NOT require SGX compliance. PowerDVD is not very good at UHD BD playback overall anyways. You NEED to do some more reading/research. Start here:

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=17249&p=61526&hili ... ing#p61526

That's a similar discussion regarding SGX. Research MPC-BE + MadVR and JRiver for UHD playback. They all have their own support forums as well.

DO as d00zah also advises and READ the FAQ.

2. "Second problem" - The WH16NS60 is an official UHD drive that is currently NOT supported for backing up UHD BDs with MakeMKV (however, it is supported by other software) with its default out-of-the-box firmware. It needs to be crossflashed to Friendly if it's going to be used with MakeMKV at this time. Discussed numerous times in the forum. Examples:

viewtopic.php?f=12&t=18199&p=66737&hili ... S60#p66737

search.php?keywords=WH16NS60

The other drive (ASUS BC-12D2HT) you need to flash to a friendly 3.00 firmware version specific to that drive. Again thoroughly discussed already as well.

READ THIS ENTIRE THREAD:

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=17034&hilit=12d2ht

There are SEVERAL flashing services being provided and at least two methods to flash. Examples:

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=17829

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18251

Again, you still need to do some more leg work on your end. Searching the forum yields many helpful discussions on all this.

I am a bit lost with the contradictory information in the forums and I can't find proper tools to perform flashing nor find a 3.0 / 1.0 firmware for my ASUS / LG drives.
Wherever you are reading this information or whomever is providing it is either incorrect/confused or you are misunderstanding the entire process on your end. In this MakeMKV forum there are hundreds of clear and concise conversations detailing what can and can't be done. Again, YOU need to continue doing your research. I have provided many good starting points above.

As we're ending 2018, are rippers any close to become as easy as Blu-ray?

By this I mean, futureproof hardware for new content to come...
Some advise regarding this here:

viewtopic.php?f=16&t=16832&p=67198&hili ... dly#p67198

Additionally, there has never been anything "future proof" in tech. Specially in something like this where one side is throwing a LOT of money at trying to prevent what they deem as "piracy" and the other side ("hackers"/developers like Mike) are trying to circumvent those efforts to allow people to do with their purchased media as they please. It's always been a cat/mouse game and will continue to be.

Sounds like I'd be able to downgrade my drive firmware soon:

So after 2 tries (forgetting to backup/read the signature of my drive on the first try), I've been able to downgrade my firmware and it works! Yay!
