Was wondering if anyone has successfuly ripped this from the 4k copy.
I have been through 4 different copies and none of them rip.
Always fails at some random offset. I did a surface scan of the disk and they all pose problems.
Code: Select all
Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00102.m2ts' at offset '9084008448'
Error 'OS error - STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom0' at offset '9084008448'
Error 'OS error - STATUS_DEVICE_DATA_ERROR' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom0' at offset '9084008448'

More info might be helpful. What version of MakeMVK are your using? What drive and firmware are you using? As for Interstellar 4K, I have successfully ripped that disk. As I recall, I did have a few issues. I would start by cleaning the disk. You never know what is on a disk that will cause problems. As soon as I get new discs, the first thing I do is clean them. Just use a solution of 50% water and 50% rubbing alcohol in a small pump bottle and dry with a clean micro fiber brush. Try this first and let us know how it is going.

One other thing, make sure you have the latest hashed keys file installed.

I ripped mine yesterday, though the hash key(s) wasn't valid, I had to use a combination of AnyDVD and MakeMKV. Once the correct hash was in memory MakeMKV had no issues.
Good luck, it's an 85GB disc.
I'm using the Asus 16D1HT (Rev 3.01) drive BTW and makemkv 1.12.0

I had no problems with my copy of Interstellar, which was an import of the UK release.
I've done about a dozen discs so far - I'm not buying too many yet - some from Canada, some from US and some from UK - and they've all worked flawlessly.

My UK release worked absolutely fine. Asus BW-16D1HT, 3.02.

Still having issues.
I'm using the Asus 16D1HT (Rev 3.01) drive BTW and makemkv 1.12.0
Increased the retry count to 25.
Cleaned the disk with mild soap and warm water.
No solution it seems. Might have to import a 4k disk.
Im on my 5th US 4k disk. One disk even came straight from Paramount HE Support.

I have this movie and it ripped fine with my Asus 16D1HT v3.02. I have the USA version and it is only 65.6GB. I cant view it since my ripping machine can't handle 4k movies

When both this (the Nolan collection) and the Batman trilogy came out, as well as a few other releases, I remember reading complaints on other forums re: normal from-disc UHD playback about needing to return discs for exhanges due to playback issues such as freezing/skipping as well as, occasionally, fingerprints and scratches from stacking on discs. For Blu-rays I usually give up after 3 copies due to Amazon's replacement limit but that has been very rare - normally solve it after one replacement. Still, I wouldn't be surprised that problematic UHDs are out there. Trying a different drive that may have better luck reading through the problems or a UHD for this release from a different region (and thus guaranteeing a different batch) may yield a solution.

Mine worked on the first try. I'm not sure if it had any errors because I don't check if it successfully ripped the title. It seems to play just fine and I was able to reduce the bitrate using StaxRip. I could tell a difference in the details and color even on my 1080, non-hdr screen. It looked stunning.
I have a US version (from the Nolan 4K Collection) and I used the LG BH16NS55 (no idea what firmware).
Have you tried running one of them a second time after it failed? I have had some fail on me, then sucecessfully rip when I run it again immediately after the failure.

My disc from Amazon US took several (probably almost 10 tries) to rip after many failures at random points. I also kept cleaning the disc after each attempt with alcohol wipes and seemed to get a little further each time.
Icgrzy, what are you using to play them on your non-hdr screen? I've tried mpv player, Windows built-in "Movies & TV" app, and Potplayer with madVR which all try to convert HDR content for traditional screens but none of the colors looked satisfying to me. I could notice the increase in resolution but the color of the regular blu-ray was so much better that I'm just sticking with that until some decent HDR monitors are released.

I used both Movies & TV and MPV, I think. The colors are definitely different, but to my eye, they are an improvement over the regular Blu-Ray. I guess if I had to pick something to complain about, it might be the fact that the picture is brighter, which may cause some scenes to be washed out. I'll take another look when I'm back at home.
You could also try XDR. It works with MPC BE in an attempt to more accurately translate the colors to non-HDR screens. In my limited testing, I think it looked a better, but it used a ton of CPU, even when it wasn't playing anything.

I'm also having problems with Interstellar (german disc). I ripped The Martian with no problems first try but Interstellar always fails about two to three minutes in at a random offset. I also tried cleaning (water, little soap, microfiber cloth) without success.
I am using MakeMKV 12.0 on macOS 10.13 and Windows 10 with the Asus BW-16D1HT in an external USB 3.0 enclosure.
