Was able to rip this yesterday (thanks!) however when I've just come to watch the main movie on the TV from the rip saved on my external hard drive, despite the five English subs being present and available for selection, none of these appear onscreen. Interestingly when I've tried to play the same on my PC the subtitles do appear by default (as chose all available Eng subs inc. forced in addition to the default German language soundtrack/audio), although on the main picture ie; where one would expect and not overlapping the black aspect bars top and bottom.

Just wondered if anyone was able to corroborate the same or at least confirm that I've stumbled somewhere as have never experienced this before.

Ta.

The utility MediaInfo can show you a lot details about your .mkv files. Subtitle tracks in .mkv files can have a flag called 'default' that can be set to true (only 1 subtitle track should be default true). Some playback software will honor that flag and some won't. The first step, however, is to verify which, if any, subtitle tracks are set to default and to fix it if it is wrong. MKVToolNix can let you change the flags in a .mkv file.

If whatever you're using to play back the file on your TV does not honor the default flag, you might have pick that subtitle track manually using the UI of the playback software.
