Thelma and Louise - 4K Criterion Audio problems

Thelma and Louise - 4K Criterion Audio problems

The MAKE MKV file will not play in surround sound via plex app on ROKU tv. It switches from surround to playing only through soundbar.
I have used all 5.1 audio files available. The disc plays in perfect surround.
I have tried the file from different hard drives, and re-ripped the disc. Same issue.

Any suggestions?

MediaInfo can tell you a lot of information about your .mkv files. What does it say about the file in question? Does your .mkv file contain the audio tracks you expect?

Often when questions like this are asked the answer comes down to something with the playback setup, not with the .mkv file produced by MakeMKV.

The MKV file contains every audio file contained on the disc. I have tried all 5.1 audio tracks provided.
The sound starts playing only out of the sound bar, then plays in full surround, and latter switches back to the sound bar, then again to full surround.
The disc, played via 4K disc player plays in full surround throughout. As does the MKV file played via disc-players USB port.

I have never had this issue with any of my hundreds of other MAKEMKV files played via Roku on the same television with the same speakers.

If the .mkv file MakeMKV produced has all the audio files you expect. And if that .mkv file plays as you expect via the USB port on your disc player. And if it does not play as you expect when played via Plex on a Roku, then it seems like the fault must be in the Plex app on Roku or in the Roku itself or something downstream from the Roku.

It seems like the Criterion UHD of Thelma & Louise (1991) has only a DTS-HD Master Audio audio track. Can the Roku and/or the TV decode DTS audio? Most Samsung TVs of the last few years do not have support for DTS. And I seem to recall coming across some sound bars that can't decode DTS either.

It's never been an issue before. I have many others with only a DTS-HD Master Audio audio track, and they all work.
It's baffling. I'm going to try converting the audio file.
Thanks for replying.
