Hello,
I'm new to ripping 4k discs but I have 2 drives (BH16NS55 and WH14NS40) flashed with the latest firmware from the custom firmware pack (found here:"viewtopic.php?f=19&t=19113).
I bought a couple of discs (Braveheart, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Gladiator, Predator).
However, over half the time the discs can't be loaded (makemkv says no disc is inserted), and when it is loaded it almost always has trouble checking the hashes of the m2ts files. Am I doing somthing wrong? Is there anything I can do to improve the reading of the discs?
Drives have difficulties loading and reading discs
Re: Drives have difficulties loading and reading discs
My experience with two of this exact same drive (BH16NS55) is that I had some difficulties reading discs with various firmware files and after testing many files, the fastest and most compatible one I have used is WH16NS60 rev 1.02MK . provided you have the registry entry for unlimited speed it will read a UHD disc at 11.5x which is about 50MB/s.
Even with this firmware, I had some brand new discs that would not read properly even though they looked spotless so I washed them using dish soap, warm water and a new microfiber towel and then they read fine.

Re: Drives have difficulties loading and reading discs
Thanks for the reply. I will try that.
Re: Drives have difficulties loading and reading discs
OK, I tried your suggestion (and also a lot of other firmware versions). Although the drive(s) now seem to be able to load the disc much better I now have audio/video sync issues while ripping...
Re: Drives have difficulties loading and reading discs
Had the same problem, same disk didn't work for a few times - so cleaned with a microfibre cloth and drive read them without issues.
Re: Drives have difficulties loading and reading discs
I will try to see what cleaning the discs does, altough they seem spotless. But in general, are these discs much harder to read or something. It almost sounds like for each discs you need to flash the drive with a different firmware and find out which works.
Or once you have found a good firmware should it work with almost any disc?
