Discs not getting through the initial scan process

#1 Post by masapap » Fri Sep 05, 2025 3:48 am

Hi all,

I am extremely new to makemkv. In fact, I am 4 or so hours in. I purchased this drive: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MTP9VKX?re ... title&th=1 and when I popped a regular DVD in it worked perfectly out of the box. Then I moved on to a 4k disc and this is where all the problems started. Firstly, it takes 15+ minutes to even load the disc in the first place. Once that is done, I click on the image of the drive to start the scan to show me all of the files on the disc. When I do that, it does nothing for what seems like an infinite amount of time. I did a little research and found out that I needed to flash the firmware on the drive. I got that done and everything seemed to align to the tutorial so I figured I was ready to go. That was not the case unfortunately. It repeated the exact same process again even after the flash. I decided "oh maybe its just the 4k's it's having an issue with" so I popped in a standard blu-ray and it is doing the same thing with it. During the time of constructing this post the time elapsed on the scanning screen is at 0:21:08 with no progress at all. The box below the progress bars just says "MakeMKV v1.18.1 win(x64-release) started." I tried to attach screenshots of my issues, but it is saying the board attachment quota has been reached so I will type out my drive information below. Please tell me someone knows how to fix/explain to me what is going on or what I did wrong. I highly appreciate any replies!!

Drive may not be getting enough power. The Verbatim's are quite power hungry.

Use USB-C if you can. Also, only use ports direct from the motherboard or an AC self-powered hub of at least 30W. Case ports are not recommended for use with optical drives as most do not provide enough constant power.
Cheers :D
