Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 - Unsuccessful again

I originally bought the 4k UHD steelbook when it was released back in 2017, but only got into ripping my discs last year. When I tried to rip the disc, it would read error fail when the file would reach 26.9 GB in size (I forget what percentage MakeMKV would have completed.) I asked a friend of mine to try and rip it with his setup (different 4K UHD reader, btw), and he got the exact same read error at the exact same point. File size was the same. 26.9 GB.

A few months later, I wound up buying a new copy from an eBay seller, thinking that the fault was of the media. However, I ran into the same read error problem, at the same time, and same file size. Again, asked my friend to try a 2nd time as well, but he wound up getting an identical result.

Today, a few months after the previous new copy, I got another brand new copy of the movie from Target. I watched the file size steadily click on, but once again, when it hit 26.9 GB, I started to hear the drive do it's usual read error spin up & down. After a few minutes, MakeMKV displayed the same read error I've become far too familiar with. Lastly, I tried the method of copying the disc files direct to my hard drive to hopefully get past this, but it's met the same failure.

To this date, having ripped almost 200 Blu-ray and 4K UHD Blu-ray discs, it remains the only disc I have yet to successfully rip for my own personal digital collection.

I believe I already know the answer to my pending question, but you never know... After trying 2 different 4K UHD drives connected to 2 different machines, using 3 different copies, all being met with an identical error at the same time... are there any other options I can try? Or am I just out of luck here?

From the smug peerspective of somenone who has successfully ripped a vesion of this disc...
Extreme cleaning (soapy water) might be called for though I don't hold out much hope for this
You say tw different ROM drives but what of drive platform? Some discs will fail in a LG drive but will work in a Pioneer drive
Mu uncompressed rip (English audio only) is 52.3GB which leads me to conclude that it is a 2 layer disc. Transition to the second layer could be the problem.
I ripped mine using MakeMKV v1.17.3 win(x64-release). Some users say that going back a version or so can help
