In the Heat of the Night (1967) UHD fails silently

#1 Post by CottonTree » Mon May 30, 2022 9:26 pm

I have ripped many blurays and UHD disks with WH16NS60 (fw: 04/25/2117 17:56), LibreDrive MT1959, fw: Original (unpatched).

I have now tried two different original disks of the UHD version of "In the Heat of the Night" (1967). Both disks fail and show absolutely no debug messages. The drive makes an unusual grinding noise several times before going silent and MakeMKV (v 1.16.7) ends up with "No disc inserted" in the Info panel, but nothing in the logs/console (with debug enabled).

Am I the first to rip this?

I am experiencing the same issue. I have the ASUS BW-D116HT with 3.10 patched fw . Also have the issue with the 4k of "For a Few Dollars More", but oddly the 4k of "A Fistful of Dollars" ripped without a hitch.

Same problem on my LG Ultra Slim BD/DVDRW BU40N.
Fails halfway through:

"Hash check failed for file 00001.m2ts at offset 27429955584, file is corrupt.
The source file '/BDMV/STREAM/00001.m2ts' is corrupt or invalid at offset 27429931008, attempting to work around"

After having multiple 4k disks fail, but confusingly not all, I replaced my Asus drive with a LG BH16NS60 (with patched 1.02 FW) and "In the Heat of the Night" ripped flawlessly the first time.

You can still flash the ASUS to BH16NS60 1.02 and try again. This firmware works better with 3-layer discs. Just FYI - before you put it in the trash.
