No discs are recognised on a previosly working, flashed drive [SOLVED]

#1 Post by Niggi Biggi » Wed Feb 03, 2021 9:03 pm

I decided today to start ripping my 4K discs anew in light of news that MakeMKV can now extract Dolby Vision metadata.

However, with the new update I've found that I'm unable to rip my discs, since MakeMKV doesn't recognise them anymore at this point.

At first it would give me an SCSI read error, which I unfortunately haven't been able to reproduce in my testing, but now the discs aren't even recognised anymore, not even normal Blu-rays.

Here's something from one of my debug logs:

"Debug log started at Wed Feb 03 20:55:39 2021 , written by MakeMKV v1.15.4 win(x64-release)
Using 262272KB for read cache.

001004:0000 Debug logging enabled, log will be saved as file://C:\Users\user/MakeMKV_log.txt
Network access is ENABLED, CURL version 7.72.0/Schannel/1.41.0 (x86_64-pc-win32) , proxy server not set.

I hope you can help me!

Not sure what MakeMKV version you are using but drop back to v1.15.2 and see if this issue persists.
Also, what FW version was drive on before flashing to 1.02?
Cheers :D

I seem to have found the solution to the problem, so here's a sort of diary of my troubleshooting steps:

After I ran into these problems, I redownloaded MakeMKV version 1.15.4.0, which didn't help.

Then I flashed from firmware version 1.02 on my LG BH16NS55 drive to version 1.05, which seems to have helped a bit, although I am still having a hard time getting the discs loaded reliably.
It seems as if the drive will only recognise the discs intermittently.

So far I've been able to rip two discs, one being 2001: A Space Odyssey, and the second being American Psycho, again intermittently.

I'll try downgrading to a previous version of MakeMKV to see if it helps.

Here are my specs:

Drive Information
OS device name: E:
Current profile: BD-ROM
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE BH16NS55
Revision: 1.05
Serial number: K9TI4QF2019
Firmware date: 2120-04-21 10:49
Bus encryption flags: 17
Highest AACS version: 76

LibreDrive Information
Status: Enabled
Drive platform: MT1959
Firmware type: Patched (microcode access re-enabled)
Firmware version: 1.05
DVD all regions: Yes
BD raw data read: Yes
BD raw metadata read: Yes
Unrestricted read speed: Yes

Well, I didn't downgrade to an older version of MakeMKV, but I did update Windows, and now my discs seem to be recognised and rip just fine everytime.

I'll let you know if anything goes wrong again.
