BDMV Vs. MKV

#1 Post by dancjodanc » Fri Apr 10, 2020 5:30 pm

Is there any quality lose ripping to MKV, instead of burning the disc to BDMV. I had to do this for the Skywalker Saga, one of the disc would only work correctly if I used a back up of the UHD. And I wondered if the quality was better than ripping to MKV. I also read you have to use the BDMV if you want to have Dolby Vision. MKV does not support it. Since my TV does support Dolby Vision, I want that option.

This topic has been discussed in detail multiple times within this forum. The forum search function will provide many posts on this. You can use it to find existing answers/discussions to these common questions/topics. Example:

But again, in short, MakeMKV is not an encoder/transcoder.
