Note that I will summarize the events, then provide detail after.
Last night:
1. Tried ripping the main feature, failed
2. Tried again, failed
3. Re-ripped a disc I'd already ripped to see if the drive was giving me trouble, successful
4. Tried to make a backup of Batman Rises, finished but reported that something failed a hash check
This morning:
5. Ripped The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, successful
6. Tried ripping Batman Begins again, successful
7. Backup of Batman Begins, successful
Some details:
1. #1 failed with some strange errors implying that the drive was not available. They references the device name. At least one time something like POSIX was mentioned. I didn't have debuging turned on nor did I copy the error messages. I figured I would just try it again (step2). I also believe I had to power cycle the drive to get it to read the disc again.
2. Similar errors for step #2 although not identical. I wish I'd copied the messages but I didn't. It's fine, I don't expect anyone to deduce exactly what happened without error messages

3. This morning my plan was to try to rip it again with debug on, then post here for help. But, to my surprise, all the ripping went fine. Go figure

4. This morning the backup succeeded too, for some reason.
I rip directly to my Synology NAS which I assume most people do. My computer and NAS are both connected to my wired GE network so there ought not to be any b/w or connection issues. I will admit that last night, I was also streaming a 4K movie while trying to rip/backup. But, the error messages didn't give me any sense that the problem had something to do with the NAS. And it was really odd that I had to power cycle the blu-ray after the failures.
Thoughts? I probably will try to stream and rip at the same time again just to see what happens. But, I thought I'd post this in case someone has had a similar experience.
