John Wick 2 UHD Erroring Out at 24817GB on Two Different Discs

Hey team, I know generally read errors are disc or hardware based so here is the troubleshooting I have done. To start I am using the John Wick Chapter 1-3 UHD disc set. John Wick 1 and John Wick 3 rip correctly.

I am using the following hardware to make rips.

• BP60NB10 running BP60NB10 1.02MK

• Windows 11

• Writing to SSD

• Using MakeMKV 1.77.7 registered.

I have tried two different chapter 2 discs in-case it was bad media. The drive works with other media leading me to believe it is not drive issue.

At 24817GB on both discs I can hear the drive start spinning up and down over and over trying to read until MakeMKV fails.

Final error I get is as follows:

• Error 'Scsi error - NOT READY:LOGICAL UNIT IS IN PROCESS OF BECOMING READY' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00000.m2ts' at offset '27624075264'

• Error 'OS error - The I/O device reported an I/O error' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom0' at offset '27624075264'

Further information: After failing the disc will not decrypt again now will the drive read any disc until unplugged and power cycled.

At forced 2x speed I am able to force through but get a lot of errors on both discs. Is this just a bad series of discs?

You need a flashed Pioneer drive. Don't buy any stock drive on Amazon. New drives don't work for UHDs. Check the UHD drive and Libredrive section.

Pioneer drives are the best at dealing with problematic discs. It is unfortunate that Pioneer's current firmware disables LibreDrive functionality.

Obviously, your drive works for UHDs. You did rip JW 1 & 3 after all.

Using both USB plugs is the recommended way to go, since USB powered drives need all the power they can get.

If a good cleaning doesn't get you past the troublesome spot (on either of your copies), the next best thing is to try a different drive. It is remarkable how often the same disc in a different drive produces different results.

Or, maybe, the disc is damaged and even with an expensive Pioneer drive, it would fail. JW2 is probably a triple-layer BD100 disc. These are always the hardest for any drive to read correctly since the data density is the highest of any disc in use today.

ok i will remove them ... lol but no its needed as most people dont buy from me.
pioneers are the only drive i recommend now as long as you get can them with old firmware you should

Taking your advice, getting a second drive to test with. I noticed the laser module on this unit seems a bit sticky near the middle of the track. Wonder if that causes issues. I will have two copies of the blu-ray and two copies of the drive to test with. JW3 is also triple layer and works so i know some discs work.

It was a bad drive. I replaced the drive and could read the discs i had trouble with before.
