Problem with Star Trek IV UHD

Post by Guybrush »

I have successfully ripped Star Trek IV UHD (and also Star Trek X UHD).
But when I watch the film with Infuse, I only see HDR, not HDR10+ as it says on the box.

Do you know where the problem is?

Not all versions of AppleTV 4K support HDR10+ and not all TVs support HDR10+. I have no idea if Infuse supports HDR10+.

My TV and the Apple TV can do HDR10+.
I probably should have mentioned that I have already ripped several UHD's with HDR10+ and they all display correctly.
Like "Back to the Future 1 - 3", for example, they are played in HDR10+.
So, either the disc doesn't have HDR10+ like it says on the packaging, or something was ripped incorrectly.

FWIW, I don't think any of the Star Trek movie UHD Blu-ray releases support HDR10+. I don't see any HDR10+ marking on my own box set (Star Trek: The Original Motion Picture 6-Movie Collection). And the blu-ray.com announcement about the UHD box set doesn't list HDR10+ support. Same thing with blu-ray.com's listing for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

I believe these UHD Blu-ray releases only support HDR10 and Dolby Vision.

The DVDCompare.net listing for Star Trek IV UHD doesn't mention HDR10+ either.

I'm just wondering why the packaging has the HDR10+ logo on it.
UHDs that show the logo also have HDR10+, but not this one.
But if so, the packaging is probably wrong.

Could you share a picture of the packaging with the HDR10+ logo? Afraid I'm not seeing it on my packaging, although I have the 6-movie box set where all of the discs are together into 2 cases instead of individual cases for each movie.

Unfortunately, I don't know how to share a picture!?!
By the way, I have the German UHD version.

Thanks for sharing the picture Guybrush. I suspect this was a packaging label mistake and your discs don't actually support HDR10+. The U.S. packaging doesn't have that HDR10+ label; it just has the Dolby Vision label. It looks like Universal Pictures Home Entertainment (UPHE) is responsible for distributing Paramount Pictures releases in Germany, so that might explain why their packaging is different than the U.S. release. These listings for the German edition don't mention HDR10+ support:

Blu-ray.com: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home 4K Blu-ray (Germany)
dvdcompare.net: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (Germany)

You could always try reaching out to them and ask them to confirm whether these discs support HDR10+:

UPHE contact form or e-mail info@universal-pictures.de
Paramount contact form (scroll down and click Allgemeine Anfrage)

I also think that the packaging with the HDR10+ logo is wrong.
I'll leave it at that, it's not that important, but thanks for your information about it.
