Getting started ripping 4k discs
Getting started ripping 4k discs
Hey, I've been ripping non-uhd blu rays for a couple of years now and I want to make the move to 4k but i'm not sure where to start. The official guide seems really confusing to me and I really don't want to destroy a drive accidentally. As I understand I have to buy a drive from the list, ensure it was made after 2015, and flash it with the correct firmware? I have a couple of questions like where exactly am I supposed to get the firmware and how do I actually go about flashing the drive? My current drive is a cheap Matshita bd-cmb uj-120, I know it's not listed and this is a shot in the dark but is there any chance that it's just a rebranded blu ray drive that is uhd friendly so that I could flash it?

Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2022
It is all in there. The list of supported drives (pretty sure your Matshita won't work), the list of which firmware for which drive, a link to the firmware pack and flasher tools, along with instructions.
There's a section titled 'Unlocked Flashers, Downgrade Enabled Firmware and MK Firmware' which has an item 'The All You Need Firmware Pack', for example. Below that section is a section about how to flash.
You probably should read through that post a couple of times and make sure you understand it before proceeding. There are drive sellers listed in that post if you don't want to flash it yourself. You can buy a flashed and tested drive from them. You could also get one of the newly supported Pioneer drives that don't require flashing but have only been supported for a few weeks.
