Resident Evil - Apocalypse Audio Sync

Post by CrowMagnum »

Back in November I got the Box Set of Resident Evil. All the movies ripped fine except for the second movie Apocalypse. The Atmos Track noticeably drops out around the 27 Minute Mark reliably and then once it comes back everything is out of sync unless I skip ahead then it re-syncs. I had looked at the forums and saw that other people were also having the same issue and from what I could tell the problem would be fixed with a newer version of MakeMKV. Well it is two newer versions later and I re-ripped the movie and nothing has changed. All of my other movies work just fine. I use Plex on My Synology Drive and my Player is the second Generation Nvidia Shield. This is the first time I have experience this. Any Ideas??? Thanks!

Do you have the MakeMKV logs from the rip? What happens if you play the file on a player like MPV (https://mpv.io) on your computer?

I should mention that once you get to around the 27 minute mark which seems to be the first instance of the audio sync problem, it keeps reoccurring throughout the movie in several instances. I haven't made notes to which scenes, but the first one occurs in the church scene right before Milla Jovovich makes an appearance. I used the 802 Track since other people had said that was the right track to use... https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 12&t=23700

I don't have MPV Player, I might try it but my PC isn't capable of playing Dolby Atmos, It appears that its just the Atmos Track that has the problem. None of the other audio formats seem to have any issues. I also have Kodi and it also demonstrates the Audio Dropout problem.

Here's my logs from the rip:

Have you tried to rip title #1 800.mpls?

Ok, I tried the 800 Track. From what I can tell its the Theatrical Release Version. That track plays fine, there's no Atmos Audio Dropouts. I still would like the extended version, so I am going to try track 803 to see if that version works, otherwise I will be content with the 800 track. I will post my results.

Since you mentioned the playlists share the same segment map, my guess based on a pretty common authoring setup is you have two playlists for theatrical and two playlists for extended - the only difference between them will be, one will have English/Spanish/French type subtitle/language options and the other will have Japanese subtitle/language options.

It looks like track 800 is the only version that plays fine, no issues. Honestly the extended version didn't offer that much to the movie, so I won't bother with it any longer. Track 803 & 802 both have problems. Thanks for your help!
