Casino (US UHD) - The volume key is unknown for this disc

Post by UHDeezNuts »

I own this copy of Casino UHD. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TJKCD19

I get the error 'The volume key is unknown for this disc' (screenshot below). I've ripped about 10 other UHD discs that I own with no problem and had no keys installed either.

Upon getting this error with Casino, I researched what the problem could be. I downloaded the latest keys_hashed.txt (9/12/2019) from this website, and downloaded and unzipped keydb.cfg (English 12-12-2019) from http://fvonline-db.bplaced.net. I copied them both to the MakeMKV data folder and restarted MakeMKV. It didn't fix the problem.

I see multiple entries for Casino in both key files but I guess my version is not one of them?

I've noticed that a file named 'MKB20_v68_Casino_54C5.tgz' has been created in my MakeMKV data folder. Do I email this to svq@makemkv.com?

Thanks, and sorry for the n00byness of this question!

Yes. Normally, within a day or so, you should be able to do the rip.

MakeMKV automatically downloads the latest Hash Key table, as noted where you blocked out your user name in the image. There is no need to go searching for what would ultimately old information.

Ah ok! That makes sense about the automatic hash downloads! I was reacting to out of date information on the forums about needing to find and install these files. This explains why my other discs ripped ok without any of these files :)

Thanks!

I know you said the hash keys will download 'automatically, but just curious how automatic? Like does it check on a weekly basis? Daily? Or does it just download whenever there's a new table to download? Or does it rely on some kind of user interaction from me? Curious because apart from the screenshot I posted above, I've not seen any information suggesting it's downloaded another one.

Pretty much every time you start MakeMKV, it looks for updates. You'll see it in the log window.

You can disable the update check in Preferences, but if you're buying new UHD disks, it is probably a bad idea.
