Ripping speed

It takes me about 12 hours to rip any UHD disc in my Asus BW-16D 1HT 3.01.
Is this the normal ripping time ?
Or is there anything which could be done to speed up ?

Ripping time for Blue Rays is much faster

I have no idea what would be causing your issue. It should be less than 1 hour for UHD. Usually 30-45 minutes.

Yeah 45 minutes is typical.

What spec machine are you using, and what are you writing the mkv file to?

I seem to recall reading something about ccextractor not being present causing really slow rips. Could that be what's going on?

I am using a Dual Xeon machine (36 cores total), 128 GB RAM + Nvidia 1080i graphic card under Windows 10 - 64.

I haven't had a dual CPU board since the Pentium 2 and 3. Have you tried setting core affinity so the makemkv process only uses one physical cpu?

They said DUAL Xeon not Dual-core. It's effectively a workstation. Zero reason to have issues like they are describing.

Yes I have 2 physical CPUs each 18 cores. But MakeMkv can read from my UHD friendly Asus BW-16D 1H 3.01 only at a very slow speed.
As already mentioned it takes 12 hours min. to rip a 50 GB from the UHD. Even much longer to rip 70 GB.
Copying to content of the UHD to the harddrive is much faster.
What's going on here ? Firmware update, would this help ?

It is recommended to use a nvidia gtx1050 or greater, or another card equal to this It only takes about an hour, give or take.

whoops, i saw you answered the speed question. makemkv is a very processor unintensive program, basically the computer just needs to have a pulse to rip at max speed, ripping from disc to hard drive i said, trans-coding is a whole other issue where all that horsepower be a great benefit.
really sounds to me like the discs you're ripping may be dirty or there's something wrong with the drive, but then again you said regular 1080 blu rays go a lot faster.
lately i've been noticing UHD blu rays ripping at speeds twice as fast as regular HD blu rays, didn't used to be that way for me but whatever, i'm not complaining

It may be the drive itself. Until today I used a Panasonic/Matshita BD-MLT UJ272 and never was able to get a faster rip speed than 2.1X for non-UHD Blu-ray discs. Even though the drive can read BDXL it couldn't read UHD discs thus I bought a new one. I went for the LG BU40N and with the stock firmware I couldn't read UHDs too but I tested it with a non-UHD Blu-ray disc first to see if there was a speed improvement. Definitely yes; it rips with up to 6.0X (which is the maximum the drive supports). I then went and flashed the LibreDrive firmware and I'm currently reading John Wick 4K UHD with 6.0X and if the Elapsed / Remaining times are correct it will take 38 minutes.

I do have a Xeon E5-2680v3 (12 core, 3,3 GHz) which is fully utilized by x264 AVX2 and thus all 12 cores are at 2,8 GHz. MakeMKV uses 0,9 % to 2,5 % CPU and 370 MB RAM.
