I've been a long time MakeMKV user, and I've had no issues with my Dvd, Blu-Ray or UHD discs.
But... On my shelf, I got Fury and The Patriot, and I can't get them out of my mind.
I've been waiting for MakeMKV to support them, which doesn't seem to happen.
I get it, it's much work for just two titles.
So I'm wondering, is there someone out there who uses DeUHD?
(Preferably in Norway or countries close to Norway).
Thanks!
DeUHD, Fury and The Patriot.

Re: DeUHD, Fury and The Patriot.
it seems that deuhd is the only thing that would decrypt this 2.1 protection,as far as aware these were the only 2 discs that had this type of protection, unless more discs come out with standard 2.1 i don't think makemkv will support it.i think its just a matter of time before more discs start using better encryption.as such the cat and mouse game continues

Re: DeUHD, Fury and The Patriot.
I thought about trying to get that program but the lifetime version which is what i would want is over 99 euros which im not sure of the current conversion rate but i imagine it would cost well over a 100 usd for a program which only rips 4k discs.
I seem to think i will keep trying makemkv for now.i believe that the cat and mouse game will force an upgrade t some point to the software,i dont know if more discs will switch over to accs 2.1 a.it's very possible tht the movie studios will try the two or three other versions of accs or a new copy protecton alltogether.
I would hold my cards close if i were them

Re: DeUHD, Fury and The Patriot.
This would be very unlikely, specially after the AACS 2.0 scheme has been officially introduced into the industry and standards have to be met based on this across it. The implementation of such standards and technology takes a lot of work on many ends. It's not something that some kid in his parents basement put out and studios/companies all of a sudden use. Such a drastic change would be more possible in the next generation of BD tech (e.g. 8K or the next version of HEVC). Be it physical disc or streaming.
Now this would be plausible because as discussed here there is precedent. One studio tested the waters with it. However, at this level it becomes a costs game. That is, if the studios are willing to pay the extra costs that come with using those other variations of AACS 2.0.smartieyoung wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 7:21 pmit's very possible tht the movie studios will try the two or three other versions of accs

Re: DeUHD, Fury and The Patriot.
Very true i imagine it does take a lot of time and energy to put a new standard into place ,i didnt mean to suggest the industry would drop it suddenly.i meant to say that when the standard increases like you have said then we may be looking differently at this.
Re: DeUHD, Fury and The Patriot.
I am not understanding the cost aspect. If it's an option in the mastering software, they merely enable it, don't they?st4evr wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 8:23 pm

Re: DeUHD, Fury and The Patriot.
As with many things in this industry, there are licensing costs. With each version/variation of AACS comes additional features and in turn costs attached. Studios do not own this technology. It’s a business model. They pay for the additional features/upgrades like in many other apps. (E.g Windows Home versus Windows Enterprise licensing price models are and cost differently, etc.)

I would imagine the license the studios pay is very expensive.i wonder if the next copy protecton scheme the studios come up with will be just as complex as the one used for 4k discs.curious minds wonder
Re: DeUHD, Fury and The Patriot.
Studios do not “come up with” or develop AACS protection schemes. AACS LA, LLC does. As discussed above, studios just license it. For those curious minds, AACS LA makes available many of their forms/applications (which lists some of the fees) to purchase licenses/keys for mass disc production for multiple media formats on their website.smartieyoung wrote: ↑Thu Sep 12, 2019 12:24 amI would imagine the license the studios pay is very expensive.i wonder if the next copy protecton scheme the studios come up with will be just as complex as the one used for 4k discs.curious minds wonder
Some of these forms are extensive and list different types of fees throughout. These can add up and there are other fees behind that (implementation, authoring, etc) that also come into play for studios.
Regardless, as UHD BDs gain market share it may become a non-issue for studios to use other AACS 2.0 revisions. As profits may end up vastly outweighing costs. The format is still in its infancy and can very easily take a different direction with these revisions.
That cat and mouse game.
