Could you also upload these TGZ files into a file host such as Google Drive or OneDrive please, and then reply with public download links? This would allow people to try adding your disks to the public KEYDB.cfg file as well.Gozer83 wrote: ↑Wed May 20, 2026 8:59 pmGot a promo of Plaion´s "The Patriot" UHD Steelbook - upcoming at june 11th 2026 - no backup/remux possible.

Re: The Patriot (2000) UHD Steelbook Plaion (upcoming) TGZ sended
Hello.
First of all, is there a Plaion release of The Patriot UHD?
I see at blu-ray.com it's Sony (even in Germany).
Anyway, that doesn't matter.
Secondly, I have a question:
The previous UHD release of this film had a weird protection (along with The Fury, original release of Stand By Me, and maybe some other films), that when i tried to play (I play my UHDs on my pc), I got pixelation every few seconds.
I got then the newer UHD of Stand by Me, and it played just fine.
Does this new The Patriot UHD have that same weird protection or not?
I understand from its contents, it must be a newly authored disc. But I wonder if they changed the protection too..

The "trick" with those disks is to use MakeMKV to create a decrypted back-up, and then to play that back-up instead of the original UHD disk.thinredline wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2026 7:06 pmThe previous UHD release of this film had a weird protection (along with The Fury, original release of Stand By Me, and maybe some other films), that when i tried to play (I play my UHDs on my pc), I got pixelation every few seconds.
These "problem" disks use AACS v2.1. However, recent re-releases of "Fury" and "The Patriot" have reverted to using AACS v2.0.

Thanks for the immediate reply. I know the trick, but I didn't want to have to make a back-up on my hard drive (which means it would require also HD space), but I wanted to be able to play the discs on the fly.MrPenguin wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2026 7:29 pmThe "trick" with those disks is to use MakeMKV to create a decrypted back-up, and then to play that back-up instead of the original UHD disk.thinredline wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2026 7:06 pmThe previous UHD release of this film had a weird protection (along with The Fury, original release of Stand By Me, and maybe some other films), that when i tried to play (I play my UHDs on my pc), I got pixelation every few seconds.

(I already have a problematic UHD - Dirty Dancing - I tried all territories US, UK, Australia, but none plays correctly. I had to make an mkv back-up, and I still don't like having this on my hard drive, and not being able to play the disc itself)
I'm interested in this particular one:

So, you're saying this one has reverted to 2.0 too? Because it hasn't been released yet..

Unless your UHD playing software can integrate with MakeMKV to decrypt the disks "on the fly", I don't really see that you have much choice. AACS v2.1 disks need more keys than just the Unit Keys, and the public KEYDB.cfg file just doesn't contain any of them, leaving MakeMKV's "hashed keys" database as your only option.thinredline wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2026 7:57 pmThanks for the immediate reply. Keys for two new "The Patriot" UHDs were added to KEYDB.cfg today, and both of these dumps are MKB20_*.tgz files, meaning they use AACS v2.0. If they still used AACS v2.1 then the dumps would be MKB21_*.tgz files.thinredline wrote: ↑Tue Jun 02, 2026 7:57 pmI'm interested in this particular one:

I play UHDs with MPC mostly (or VLC, to see the menus and the extras). They are integrated with MakeMKV.
So, I just don't buy discs with AACS v2.1.
By the way, I don't know (or haven't searched about it enough) what are keys and dumps.
But thanks for letting me know, about this new disc.
Re: The Patriot (2000) UHD Steelbook Plaion (upcoming) TGZ sended
Come to think of it, VLC probably only supports playing AACS v2.0 UHD disks anyway. So although MakeMKV's integration may contain the extra information needed by AACS v2.1 disks, VLC still doesn't know how to use itthinredline wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2026 1:45 amI play UHDs with MPC mostly (or VLC, to see the menus and the extras). When creating decrypted AACS v2.1 disk backups, MakeMKV also rewrites them as AACS v2.0 images so that VLC etc can play them.
A "dump" is a TGZ file that MakeMKV creates for any disk that it cannot decrypt.thinredline wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2026 1:45 amBy the way, I don't know (or haven't searched about it enough) what are keys and dumps.![]()
