New 4K Blurays no longer working (2001 Space Odyssey and Across the Spider-verse)

I used to be able to rip 4K BluRays just fine with my LG WH16NS40 after flashing the right firmware (patched 1.05 ), but these latest 2 aren't working:

2001 Space Odyssey
https://www.amazon.com/2001-Space-Odyss ... B07KH8W76F

Spiderman - Across the SpiderVerse
https://www.amazon.com/Spider-Man-Acros ... B0C67VFTSR

Is this due to my drive or to MakeMKV itself? I think I did update at some point to the latest MakeMKV 1.17.5, should I downgrade to an earlier version?

Thanks!

Without a clue as to what errors you received, the answer is, "we do not know".

The disks just keep spinning and are never recognized by the drive or MakeMKV. Is there someone else to find error logs or something with more info if the UI doesn’t show BluRay that you can click on to start getting the info?

what os is this on?
are your old disc that worked still working?
try on a different pc and os?
it sounds like the drive may have died.
but best to let the os see disc first then open makemkv.

Tested again and now I'm just getting a "No disc" error.

Saw some other threads about cleaning the disk, and uninstalling the drive and reinstalling, reinserting several times, tried all that nothing has changed.

INFO reads:

No disc inserted

MakeMKV v1.17.5 win(x64-release) started

-------------------------

OS: Windows 10
Disk is brand new from Amazon: 2001 Space Odyssesy 4K
I've only got a BluRay drive on this 1 pc, it's internal, i could try plugging in via USB or something with an adapter, but it's worked fine before.
Drive is only like 1yr old so doubt it's failing already.

If I just plug in the HD BluRay version then it picks it up fine

you are not on the recommended FW go to WH16NS60 fw it probably wont help but worth a try.
but sure to power down the drive for 1 min after flashing not a restart a shutdown.

Thanks, I tried flashing to 1.02 as suggested (HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin) and it flashed successfully.

Shutdown the computer, started it back up 15 min later.

Same "No disc" issue... Any other things I can try?

Hmm sorry man seems like the drive is dead
Do DVDs work still?
Or the UHD discs that worked still work or nothing now?
Pretty much only thing left is to clean laser take it apart to do that not with those dumb discs

Yea I just ripped 2001 Space Odyssey HD BluRay just fine from the same package, but 4k one won't work. So strange. Do drives that say they're 4k Bluray compatible tend to work better for 4k Blurays than ones that don't?

I read somewhere a while ago that the WH16NS40 was supposed better cause it was older, not sure if that's true.

Pioneer drives work best. But official drives do tend to work better for uhd, yes. Most of the LG or Asus drives tend to have issues with triple layer uhd's. The pioneer drives may be slower but they're typically rock solid at reading difficult discs.

@Billycar11

I just tested one of the 4K Blu Rays I successfully ripped last year and now it can no longer read it either (even tried on a different PC, still no luck), so I guess drive is worn out or something. Only 3 years old, but can still rip regular Blu Rays at least.

Anyway, I'm now in the market for a solid UHD BluRay drive, any recommendations?

@SamuriHL I know you said Pioneer but didn't see a list of models in the main UHD Flashing Guide, what would you recommend?

Thanks all!

You can't flash pioneer right now. Easiest option is to buy one from a trusted seller on this site. There are certain models that seem to still be sold with firmware that works. But you have to be careful because if you buy a drive that comes with a newer firmware it won't work. So again safest option is to buy one on here.

I bought the BDR-XS07UHD and I love it. No flashing needed. USB, will work on either my desktop or my laptop. just my 2 cents.

thats not good advice the new ones come with new fw that wont work unless you know the seller has them with old fw.
