Quick update about the FireTV Stick 4K Max (2021).
Nice...
1- does L1 now behaves like the Shield and C2 internal apps? (low contrast L1 has no effect on the x800m2)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJtwu1bwlug

2- Does it still have grey letterbox for cropped DV content?

3- Can it send LPCM 7.1 audio? (turns out the C2 can't passthrough LPCM 7.1 with the internal apps)
L1 is the same as before, it still has grey letterbox bars.
I don't know about the audio.

Though I thought the C2 internal player used to clip on that high contrast shot?
Now the C2 is just slightly brighter all the time, but it behaves the same as the Fire stick.

it was caused by the old firmware. Now the internal player no longer clip high contrast (clip less than the x800m2 overall as well).
so no effect at all with low contrast L1 just like before?

Low contrast works fine, as it always has.

thanks, only 45CAD, so cheap for what it can do. Think I'm going to buy one and hope LPCM 7.1 works (or even better truehd mat)

yes the new 7.1 EC3 audio encoder does that and you can ignore it. see: viewtopic.php?p=127616#p127616
Beware that the new version of the script auto-mux to TS. And it will also keep the lossless audio as track #1 so dont forget to switch to the audio track #2 on plex or the native lg player otherwise you"ll get HDR10 because plex will have to convert the audio on the fly and plex apparently cant do it without breaking DV. I hope one day, PLEX will add DV support for when it does "direct stream" instead of "direct play". This way, we wouldn't have to convert lossless audio to EC3 7.1 since plex can do it on the fly.

If you don't like the new auto-muxing behavior, it can be turned off by editing the bat file.

Have a quick question I haven't been able to find a good answer to. I have ripped my Dolby Vision discs to my NAS. To watch them, I'm currently just using plex on a shield. But the red push issue is annoying, and no FEL support. Also, I have an atmos system

It sounds like either an Oppo clone or an X800m2 is the way to go. Is one better than the other? Also, what is the reason everyone uses the Sony instead of the Panasonic UB820? Is it not able to play files from wifi/usb?

Thanks

I would like to generate DV metadata, with DaVinci Resolve, for files I've already used madVR on. Is it necessary to remove DV from the files before creating a prores (MOV) file?

Check out the signature in the post above yours. Look at the "DoVi Playback Devices" tab.

Thanks Gatorman, that spreadsheet is why I figured the sony x800m2 was the way to go. But there is no mention of UB820, and it's been difficult to find much discussion about it. Is this just because it's more expensive so fewer people bother to go that route, or is there something negative to it and it should be avoided?

No
Resolve will discard.

actually, it's the dovi_tool that will discard the old rpu when you'll inject the new one. The RPU gets removed when you convert to prores so Resolve wont even know the original had metadata(it wouldnt matter if it had metadata anyway).

From what i can read about the UB820, it has poor file playback compatibility.
