I was able to play the 3CB4 via VLC as arthomnix described. But I do not understand how to rip with ffmpeg. How to find out the name of my drive device (Libre Drive: ASUS USB-Device) in the /dev-String? Is there a connection between VLC and ffmpeg?
To get ffmpeg to work on Windows, you need the following folder structure:
ffmpeg folder:
ffmpeg.exe
libaacs.dll
libbdplus.dll
libbluray-awt-j2se-1.3.4.jar
libbluray-j2se-1.3.4.jar
libgcrypt-20.dll
libgpg-error6-0.dll
%ProgramData%\aacs:
keydb.cfg
Then you run (if your bluray drive is D:) :
ffmpeg -i "bluray:D:" -c copy -map 0 Oppenheimer.mkv
Thank you hunk & arthomnix for your help. Will try again on monday, unless we see support for 3CB4

Hello,
UK user and have successfully ripped 100+ UHD's with makeMKV but have hit a brick wall with my Amazon sourced Oppenheimer disk.
Not sure if there is anything I can do? I'm not techie at all so not sure what info I can post here to get some advice? But this is the error message I get:
Using LibreDrive mode (v06.3 id=866A98CB9C4E)
Using direct disc access mode
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
Saved AACS dump file as C:\Users\User/.MakeMKV/MKB20_v77_Oppenheimer_3CB4.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Also having issues with an Amazon sourced disk, 9DF6. Getting read errors at the ~30gb mark. Running it through ddrescue since yesterday and it is still working through the lats 1.5GB.

Just for reference, I managed to rip 3CB4 on Windows, with only the following in the bin directory,
ffmpeg folder:
ffmpeg.exe
libaacs.dll
libbdplus.dll
And updating the C:/Program Data/AACS/keydb.cfg file to the latest copy.
Happy to have my copy of Oppenheimer

Am I gonna have to figure out how to install libaacs or will we eventually get the key for 3CB4? I really wanna rewatch this film. Have even backed up disk to speed things along if the key ever comes. Is this wait time normal?

Add me to the list of disc failure around the 30/GB mark. tried 3 different drives, but nothing working with makeMKV for this movie disc.
EDIT: Also looks like Target, Walmart, Best Buy and Amazon are all out of stock. My new order on Amazon doesn't come till Jan.

I am curious - isn't this disk scheduled to be released on November 21st? And Amazon is predicting that I still won't receive mine until 28th. So how can you have received yours already?
They keep doing this to me as well. Yet they offer it on release day “for delivery tomorrow”
Starting to wonder what’s the point pre ordering.

So if people are managing to rip this using alternative software does that there is a key out there? I’ve found a newer version of the keydb file…is there any way of forcing MakeMKV to read that?

The unit key for the 3CB4 disc is in the online KEYDB.cfg, which allows any software that uses libbluray/libaacs to read it, but it appears MakeMKV needs the VUK and won't work if there is only a unit key available

Since ffmpeg can't read chapters from Blu-Rays, here's the chapter list for 3CB4. You can add the chapters to your MKV with MKVToolNix:
Code: Select all
mkvmerge Oppenheimer.mkv --chapters chapters.txt -o Oppenheimer_chapters.mkv
(edit: looks like the attachment didn't work, so I've uploaded it to

Yet again, 3CB4 doesn’t work yet for those wondering

It takes Mike 1 to 4000 days to generate keys. Some days he's quick, other times it can take a few weeks. Usually it's in between.
