Is it possible to remove Dolby Vision from certain scenes/frames only via RPU editing before 'burning' into BL HDR10 hevc stream to make P8 converted file?

Reason I'm asking - I burn forced subs only into the main hevc stream. This way I don't have to worry about for these 'integral parts' the sub format support of what/where I'm watching, subs kicking in or not when they are or are not supposed to, etc etc

When burning them in before making the DV file, the DV overlay gives them a rainbow effect (dunno if discovered before or not, can't be asked to read back 10,000 pages just for that TBH). Burning it in afterwards obviously isn't a choice cause of DV IIRC, correct?

It's not a dealbreaker, nor that distracting TBH, but just wondering if removing the DV from just these scenes/frames/parts via the RPU if possible would giver better overall effect when watching and subs appear on screen (might not also, if I don't remove it from the whole scene/setting for where subs appear might be too distracting seeing the same scene with DV then suddenly without- but have to see first right?)

Obviously sep subs would work but trying to see if way around that for reasons I explained above first (if I even resort to that, like I said it's not too bad really)

why would you do that now that there's a tool that perfectly converts HDR10+ to true dynamic DV?
You had to manually input (change?) some info into the json, right? Or was the entire thing fully automated? I have some HDR10+ only titles that I could make DV versions for. Shaun of the Dead and American Gangster off the top of my head.

yes, everything is pretty much automated. I just adjust the l5 active area and the l6 metadata but I don't think it really matters so you could probably just ignore it.
I watched two HDR10+ to DV movies and both were perfect.

I would suggest using the Kodi Dolby Vision builds for this, since it's patched to skip the HDR10+ when Dolby Vision is also present.

Otherwise, you can try this script: https://gist.github.com/quietvoid/175d7 ... 9eb1bd2c38
Which is based on yusesope's script, so it requires python and runs like so:

Code: Select all

python hdr10plus_remove.py -i source-video.hevc -o output-video.hevc
Thank you! The script worked like a charm.

Hello, is it possible to convert from truehd + atmos to eac3 + atmos and mux with dolby vision movies?
I have not a receiver so I have to stick to ac3/eac3 but eac3 + atmos is so much better than ac3/eac3.

Oppo has issue upconverting hdr10+ to DoVi
why would you do that now that there's a tool that perfectly converts HDR10+ to true dynamic DV?

This is from Sony's website Sony X700 owners:
Firmware update version M43.R.0284 for UBP-X700 | Release Dat 08-24-2021
  • Removes the Gracenote function
    Improves HDMI connection stability
Supporting Dolby Vision content for Blu-ray Disc, Netflix and VUDU
    Supporting online streaming services
Have not updated mine yet. Whatever DV support means in the text above. Maybe they fixed the DV limitation where you had to know which movie/disk is DV to manually enable it?
Anyone updated yet and tried a Cinavia protected movie?
haven't updated my unit yet. Which titles have Cinavia? I thought the latter was thing of the past lol

I could be wrong but i think you need the Dolby encoding suite for that and I dont think it's cracked.

EDIT: scratch that. theres an old version on russian trackers. Dont know if it supports Atmos though

Thanks, I thought so. Looks like there is no legal way for this unless you pay around 1000$

Don't products like DVDFab remove cinavia or is it through encoding not just 'muxing' it out or whatever?

Cinavia is already dead. Most studios don't use it anymore. With the introduction of DRM with online streaming and piracy through 3rd-party players, the cost of it no longer was justified. But I think you are right, DVD Fab has the ability to remove it.

I've preordered one for AV1, but the speed upgrade is welcomed.
Any Dolby Vision improvement is a bonus to me.

I've converted the profile 7 to profile 5 DV using mp4muxer.
