Am wondering - I should be able to rip this disc now ? When I try it says 'The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted. Failed to open disc'. It also generated a AACS dump file.

I've ripped a few 4K's before and I thought it downloaded these keys automatically, is that not so ?

Edit am using 1.14.5 and a LG BH16NS55.v.1.02.

It should but you might have an unknown key or...
But there is another problem that could cause this some dns servers are not updating the hashed key server so I'd you haven't riped a movie in a while and it can't update it could've be that too.

Try downloading the latest hashed keys manually and see if it works if not after that then submit the dump.

Thanks for the info. Assuming I managed to download the correct file to the correct directory, it still gave the same error, so I'll try sending that dump file.

Nope. The SDF isn't going to do anything to help as it contains no keys.

I think he's talking about my post I uploaded a current private data.tar that has both sdf and hk in it

That's fine but there's a lot of confusion around this already so we should be very clear that the SDF does not replace the need to have the HK's downloaded from the server separately.

Basically Alien wouldn't rip so I read the Alien thread, i.e. this one and sent a dump. I waited. Then downloaded the hashed.txt file but it still wouldn't rip. Re-downloaded it a few times just to have a look but didn't see any new info for Alien. Saw that Daniel Craig stuff had started working even though it was reported after I sent my dump and saw something about a sdf.bin file which I downloaded from here -

https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=17848

second post, from 'mike admin'. That made it work. I guess the bin and the txt file are both needed ?

No the text file is not needed anymore. The hashed keys are automatically downloaded by makemkv. But some people have been having dns issues with the hk server.
