4 disks have the same problem while other UHD disks rip and play fine. Hence this is a problem with the MKV software and isn't a hardware or OS problem.
This has been the same issue in the past with DVDs. So I would set them aside and recheck after MakeMKV updates. Eventually all my disks became readable.
For now I'll watch these movies on my TV by playing the disks in my Blu-Ray player.
I appreciate everyone's assistance.

You should check out this thread regarding Planet Earth III from February last year: LinkTwoMetreBill wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 9:37 pm4 disks have the same problem while other UHD disks rip and play fine. Hence this is a problem with the MKV software and isn't a hardware or OS problem.

The 1058 variant of disc 1 is the exact same disc as yours with the libaacs disc ID 0x98E41B1AAF9A2214D5AC204AD7652B39752E0B14 (as seen in your log file).
So several users with the same discs as you were able to backup their discs without issue early last year. This is because these particular titles do not use any form of structural copy protection.
The errors you are seeing are caused by your drive struggling to read discs of marginal/borderline quality. It is possible that other drives might be able to read your particular discs but that has nothing to do with MakeMKV. It is largely a matter of variations in manufacturing. I know at least one user in that thread was able to backup their set with an Asus BW-16D1HT.
Just remember that for your four discs there is no additional layer of protection or DRM which might be handled in a future update. You'll just need to exchange your discs and hopefully the replacements won't be so troublesome.
Public KeyDB Disc Submissions
- LG/Asus drives only (Pioneer drives are not supported)
- Please use file hosts, not forum attachments
- If your disc dump is under 3MB, you need to manually include the MKB_RO.inf file from the AACS folder

Re: Planet Earth III (Disc II) - 4K UHD, UK Edition
You make some very good points. I too found forum entries describing problems with ripping or just playing these disks including the No Time To DIe James Bond movie. Some people had problems with only one of the 3 Planet Earth disks. Others were able to rip all of the disks though if I remember correctly, they were using a different tool than MakeMKV.
I'll finish watching the disks and then return them to Amazon for replacement. The No Time To Die disk is too old to be returned.
Not that it matters but the HD versions supplied with the UHD disks ripped just fine. The HD to 4K upscaling works so well on our Samsung TV, played with a SSD connect to the Roku Ultra, that it's questionable whether I should be going through all this trouble.
