Code: Select all

hevc_nvenc
I think that part is trying to use the Nvidia hardware encoding, which requires a modern Nvidia card with Windows drivers. That's not going to work on a Mac.

Quite true - for the Mac, there is limited access to Intel QSV hardware through the Video Toolbox interface, but not NVENC.

However, using the hardware encoders when one of the criteria is "not lose too much quality" would be a non-starter. x264 or x265 would be the way to go.

Hi All,

I guess it all depends on how one looks at it.

If striving for ultimate movie/viewing quality has progressed us to 4K (at the moment)
then reducing this down would be counter intuitive.

Don't get me wrong I too would try and reduce to get the file size down but I have
now changed my perspective on this.

I think that since all the formats we currently have are somewhat lossy, any further
reduction will only denigrate the quality even further.

So I'm now for increasing storage capacity and rip solely at 1:1 which takes considerably
much less time than re-encoding will

It may not be everyone's cup of tea but that's just my two cents worth

Cheers
