no idea but there is now 2 OFFICIAL 2160p (4K UHD HDR) Bluray Rips out on RARBG so they must have cracked it, just want to know what software they used and will makemkv be updated to rip 4k blurays?

Again, there is no evidence that a "general crack" has been found.

Three torrents can simply be someone found a way to extract a disk key from a vulnerable player, and they got 3 that worked. If that is the case, then you would only be able to rip disks for which the key was known, so your viewing options would be whatever someone with the right hardware and software felt like watching.

Re: an ETA for MakeMKV with 4K.... When you see an announcement that the people trying to crack AACS 2.0 have released a beta library for reading 4K disks, you can start to wonder about Mike's timeline for integrating that into MakeMKV.

I think we all would be pleased if MakeMKV, AnyDVD, or another reputable group were to release a UHD solution but if I were them, I wouldn't announce or release anything until it was fully realized, able to defeat AACS 2.0 consistantly on every disc it encounted like we have with standard HD Blu-Rays. Keep in mind that the first group to do so will have a huge bullseye painted on them with the entire entertainment business and their legal and government cronies ready to bear down on them...hard...so let's be patient for the release, there may be more at play here than just cracking the encryption.

Likewise, don't be surprised if the ability to defeat AACS 2.0 isn't free. Get ready to pay someone...

Have the people that cracked these 4 titles released a generalized library for doing so?

The AACS used on Bluray still has two different levels of "being cracked". The method used by some libraries still requires an externally-found key to work, while other libraries (like the one MakeMKV uses) can extract the key from the disk itself.

From the evidence provided so far, and the fact that there has not been a flood of cracked files, they are not quite to the "here's a key, you can decode this now" stage.

And, until they release code and others can do it, too, there is no proof of anything.

Crack or no crack - what's the reason makemkv can't read the decrypted UHD disks? Can it not read the index.bdmv or is it the .m2ts files themselves that are the problem?

Because I want to make an MKV file, instead of having raw transport streams? And have that file include chapters, that are not part of the TS, but stored elsewhere in the disc structure. I don't know if any of these title include seamless branching, but that's another thing not easily reconstructed if you can't read the full bluray structure.

Ah, I see - then the claims in this topic aren't what they seem to be - they've decrypted the disk, but are still working on the "other stuff". One of the posts here seemed to say the cracked titles were available as MKV files already, and no one mentioned anything about getting access to the extras.

Even with the older version of AACS was broken, there were other copy protection things going on, including BD+.
