Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I successfully converted one GOT episode to MEL, HDR10+ was not present --> ISO --> back to mkv --> mkvmerge all audio tracks and subtitles pgs and srt.
I compared DoVi MEL with the Fire TV Stick 4k and plex from my qnap nas with the original FEL muxed in mp4 (2 video streams), which plays directly from usb on my LG C8LLA. Both look so much better than normal HDR, wich I can trigger via plex when I select the dts audio track, triggers transcode and switches back to HDR. With the AC3 track selected it switches back to DoVi. FEL looks slightly better of course, but it's not that noticable. One thing I noticed, is that I have to deselect the subtitles pgs/srt as it triggers transcode in plex. But when I select them during playback, directplay stays on, no trandscoding and they are displayed correctly both pgs and srt. (might be a plex bug) Especially with GOT that's quite important as there are quite a lot of foreign/invented language parts.
Repeating this procedure for 73 episodes to get DoVi to MEL so that my Fire TV Stick 4K can play it would take forever. I'll get a Nivdia Shield 2019, not the pro version, for comparison, FEL and Atmos/DTS-HD support.

Get the pro version, have you not read the reviews of the tube?

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I have. Actually, I found much more negative reviews, especially regarding Wifi on the pro version. I don't need more internal storage, the USB-Ports are useless, 1GB more Ram will also not make much of a difference, I already have a plex server on my nas and have no need for SmartThings. As the hardware is almost identical I don't see any advantage to buy the pro version. Is there any downside regarding DoVi playback or why should I get the Pro version?DaMacFunkin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 6:00 amWoaaa Horsey...

The 1gb ram seems to make a lot of difference when playing back 4K, most people who have the tube have had problems with 4K playback from media files, the tube is only 32bit also whilst the pro is 64 bit.truthy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 8:41 pmI have. Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
The tube was not reliable for playing 4k remuxes for me in plex. Any time I was dealing with files above 30Mbps or so, it would start to choke by dropping frames. The interface was extremely sluggish, and sometimes Plex would crash altogether.truthy wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 8:41 pmI have. I bought one back when it was really hard to find a Pro. I quickly returned it and waited til I could get my hands on the Pro (which does not have these issues). However, this was back when the tube first came out, so maybe it's improved by now.
Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Thx for the info. I guess I'll find out. If the tube can't hack it, I'll send it back and get the pro. No hassle with amazon now.DaMacFunkin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 10:21 pmThe 1gb ram seems to make a lot of difference when playing back 4K, most people who have the tube have had problems with 4K playback from media files, the tube is only 32bit also whilst the pro is 64 bit.
Update: It seems you'r right, the tube is to slow ... I ordered the NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro 2019 now.

Thank you for your reply however tsMuxeR can’t read the file “Error :Bitstream exception Unknown exception. It does not have to be! Please contact support team for more information”Manixx2020beyound wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 5:42 pmUse tsmuxer (GitHub) to mux into a ts
That should gave u profile 8.x which works in my CX.

Your going to have to demux 1st, to raw h265/hevc with ffmpeg.Malkana wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 6:03 amThank you for your reply however tsMuxeR can’t read the file “Error :Bitstream exception Unknown exception. Then add both video/audio to tsmuxer.
On another note I movie on the iPhone, Only encodes doblyvision in 30fps/60fps
(But captures in 23.976)
Seems there is another application that can be used as well & the finial encode is doblyvision as well,
In this app u can select a variety of FPS but still no 23.976
Tested with GOT

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
Did you verify that 24fps isn’t actually 23.976? Wouldn’t put it past Apple not explicitly writing out 23.976fps to avoid what that might do to the ui/simplicity.Manixx2020beyound wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 1:17 pmIn this app u can select a variety of FPS but still no 23.976

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I've gone through implementing the 2019 patent and everything seems fine, except that darn CRC32 value.yusesope wrote: ↑Thu Apr 02, 2020 10:26 amI didn't go beyond the header because that document is a nightmare.
I don't think current RPUs are implemented as described in the patent.
A simple example, considering the final sequence 0b10000000 (0x80) as rbsp_trailing_bits(), the previous 4 bytes should represent the CRC value (calculated on the entire rpu_data () excluding rpu_data_crc32).
The calculated CRC32 value never corresponds to that present in the RPU.
Can't seem to make it match at all either. Wonder if you have figured it out since then?
I'm going to assume you did, since MakeMKV cannot detect my RPU if I just change the CRC32 by 1
Any tip @mike ?
Edit: Well I figured it out, nobody told me to use CRC32 MPEG2, for whomever in the future might stumble across this.

That worked thank you And it looks great although I’m not sure how ‘dynamic’ the metadata used by the IPhone 12 is..as it looks more ‘static’ like HDR10.
Regarding the FPS - are you sure it captures in 23.976? What makes you think this? The options are 24, 30, 60 on the pro max. What “other app” is that ^?

Re: Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.
I think it’s static with dynamic adjustments made apon capture (my guess) using camera sensors. Dynamic adjustments baked in maybe.
On the 23.976 I assumed as I don’t have the iPhone 12
I’m using the max pro11 for encoding which could mean my phone lacks some features/hardware
I use these apps
The hevc app can be used for M2ts to produce raw h265 with meta then input into flimmakerpro/I movie, tested a clip of doctor sleep but colors seem to be off, oled
As for captures in doblyvision only u would know if colors are correct.
As for now not sure I want to get it until more testing.
