Dolby Vision now possible through MP4 Mux.

Same problem for me. I have sound, dolby vision is triggered however black screen on firestick 4K LG C7. Which mp4 did play normal, so i can check if i am making a mistake?

For instance,spiderman far from home, casino royale, spectre play normally, while spiderman homecoming, shining, rocketman and others only play audio with black screen both in emby and plex apps for firestick 4k. I have no other device to test eg the ATV 4K.
My believe , supported by what I see in my Lg C8 is that the "true" Dolby Vision is the single layer version. Imho the double version adopted in bluray discs is due to compatibility necessity. In other words if you play a DV disc on a non DV system, you get the hdr version. If you play a single layer DV on an incompatible system you only get audio and a nice steady pic on the display.
I am aware that my opinion is not a technical one, but is perfectly logic.
I posted the "black screen" problem arising from some single layer DV in other forums (amazon and emby) and got no reply from nobody.
I dont think I am the only person experiencing this problem but also here nobody replies.

All those rips work for me playing through a harddrive, however I want to use the new technique that is described earlier to decrease remuxing times. I want to use the adapted player and server., however with that techqnique I get a black screen.

My preference for quality goes to the single layer profile after watching many movies.
But, unfortunately for me, using the amazon firestick 4K only some of my single layer movies play correctly, others only play audio on a black screen, altough the Dolby Vision logo pos out on the display upper right corner.
This happens on Panasonic Gx TV and on Lg C8.

So apparently there's a method to backup UHD ISO's into MP4's that triggers Dolby Vision on an LG or Vizio television app via USB. I made this thread in the hopes we can figure out a way to reconvert this into MKV. The procecure is the following -



1. Make ISO of movie. I have only tested this with Black Panther since that's the only one I own. I will be buying Gladiator this weekend to test out though.

2. Use TS Muxer to open the ISO. Find the correct M2TS file and demux the following files:
A. HEVC1 in 4K (Base layer)
B. HEVC 2 in 1080p (this is the dolby vision enhancement layer)
C. Audio track which you will have to convert to AC3. This is a hard line limitation- you need to use AC3!!!

3. Once you have HEVC1, HEVC2, and the Audio track. Run Dolby Vision MP4Muxer (https://github.com/DolbyLaboratories/dlb_mp4base)
DolbyVision MP4 Muxer only works in Command Prompt so you have to navigate to the corresponding folders where the files are and type


mp4muxer --dv-profile 7 --input-file (baselayername.hevc1) --input-file (dvlayername.hevc2) --input-file (audio.ac3) --media-lang eng --output-file (nameofmovie).mp4


*Right now we are limited to only MP4 and AC3 audio. Hoping we figure out an MKV solution.

It sounds like its complicated, but it isn't. The entire process took me an hour to figure out, but once I did it, I sold my Xbox One X, because I'm now using my LG USB to play Dolby Vision MP4's! Hopefully this starts a discussion.

When using EAC3TO to extract the HEVC base layer and enhancement layer from an MKV the resulting file will stutter when played back both through my LG C9 media player and through plex. If i extract these layers using TXmuxer the resulting file plays perfectly.

does anybody know the reason behind this as i am unable to use Grencola's handy tool that automates the process when converting my MKVs.

This does not happen when converting an M2TS using EAC3TO however, all of this is confusing so any help would be appreciated.

Yes mp4 box will do it, but nothing will play it.

@yusesope, just to give you an update, the file plays back but only in HDR. It seems the Dolby Vision support for the Shield is only profile 5 like the other streamers out on the market.

I also tried the file on Amazon Firestick 4K (which supports DV single layer profile 5 through emby) and it plays in HDR.

To let you know the file dvhe.04.06 is correctly detected and played as DoVi on my LG E6 tv (dlna streaming).

By the way, I'm trying to generate single layer DV mp4 files with DVDFab (11.0.6.0), and for all of them, but Alita, just get green pictures as reported else where (First Man, BumbleBee, Despicable Me 2, Downsizing, Gladiator, Mortal Engines).
I remark that the first hevc stream for Alita is :
"SMPTE ST 2094 App 4, Version 1, HDR10+ Profile A compatible"
and the others are :
"SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible"

So a question to @yuseope, as your samples (seem to) come from Hellboy, is it like Alita, or others, and in this second case, what version of DVDFab do you use ? (as all work well on my tv)
