Try to use the command I gave you, using profile 5 even I doubt it will work
What command did you give me? I'm re-muxing right now using mp4muxer profile 5. We'll see what happens. I doubt it will. I actually can't even remember if I was able to play mp4 files at all on the fire tv, other than kodi, which won't play DV anyway I don't think.

Nope, the profile 5 won't even play the video in Kodi on either the Shield or Fire TV 4k. I'm not even sure how else to try it on the Fire TV since there's no internal player.

I also tried some of the other options in the muxer as mentioned earlier in the thread, but nothing made a difference (different profiles and different dv-input-es-mode options).

So I did try the process to convert to a MP4 container. I was able to make the file successfully, and upon playing it on my TV I could playback the clip, with the DV tag coming on, however the picture had a green tint/covering on it. Then I tried to play the file from oppo, and the picture played fine, however the resultant resolution was a 1080p DV image, which looked just fine. This is definitely a workaround, but with the reduced resolution and AAC audio needs some more work. I'll try to play this with infuse on my ATV to see if it works later.

What make/model of TV were you using? That's the most useful datapoint. LG C8 plays it fine, in full resolution.

Weird that the Oppo plays it in 1080p. With the Oppo, you can just play the raw m2ts though right, and get the DV and the lossless Atmos? So no reason to really use this workaround on there.

On a related note, has anyone been able to convert TrueHD Atmos to eac3 with Atmos and embed it in the mp4? That would be the next best thing to the lossless Atmos. All I've been able to do is pull the ac3 core out and use that.

Sorry forgot to mention, I'm using a 2016 LG Oled specifically the 65E. And yes I'm able to playback in DV full backups of my UHD's from my network. I agree I don't need it specifically, but having more ways to do it is always a plus, who know when oppo will break and how difficult it might be to get it repaired.

I have a 2016 model too.
And some movies got that green tint and it is impossible to watch.
I am looking for ways to watch those DV MP4 remux
If you find another one, let us know.
I don't think we will be able to convert those files to a single DV layer any time soon.

Interesting. I wonder what they changed between 2016 and 2017 (pretty sure the 2017 models don't have an issue playing these back).

Can any Panny UHD player even output 24p or HD audio from a non-disc source? In my experience even 24p is force converted to 60hz. So speculating about DV seems a bit moot if it even fails on 24p. Panny players are pitiful for (U)HD file-based playback in my experience, which is why I only own one for ad hoc disc-based playback. Otherwise everything goes through Kodi.

Ok, a friend told me x700 only ready them in regular HDR10
edit: he said he was wrong, and it works!

Which movies don't get that tine, I can give it a try and see if they work on my set too. Which specific model is your 2016 LG?

So from what I can gather it's ripping the DV portion to the MKV format but players can't play it, does that mean a backup I make now could work in the future if software players (plex) get DV support?

I was under the impression MakeMKV took everything on the disc and shoved it into an MKV container?

MakeMKV doesn't retain the DV layer when you rip it to MKV. The only way (that I know of) to get it in is to use MKVTools to mux the layer in from the original m2ts, or from a demuxed layer file from eac3to/tsmuxer.
