MKV files or Oppo udp 203 issue?

Earlier this year I posted about issues I was having with audio syncing or drop outs with my new UHD movies. Star wars saga and LOR's movies.
I don't use it much and today I played a movie I know was good a couple years ago and it does it too. I played the original disc and seems to play fine.

I'm going to play some BD files and see how they work.

None of the MKV ripping tools have fixed this issue for UHD discs, so for those titles (mainly Disney), you should rip to BDMV folder and play that on the Oppo - problem solved.

Just use makemkv and do a folder backup. Also make sure you check the decrypt folder option.

are these new rips with the latest version of makemkv? im pretty sure this was fixed a few versions ago but you will need to re rip if it was before the fix

Some tools claim to have fixed it for UHD, but its only fixed for SOME players. The Oppos still see the glitches and randomly drop out.

I am able to play BMDV files using oppo JB without any issues. But it does not show the thumbnail of the movies, rather I need to go through a list. I tried using DVDFab with my LG drive to convert it to MP4 in one go instead of create a backup first and then create MP4, but DVDFab says that my disk is not compatible with it, it has to change my firmware, where as the firmware has already been changed using this forum and it’s working with MakeMKV.

Are there any good solutions to make the backup in BMDV and then add thumbnails?
OR
Create another format in one pass, I don’t want to create BMDV and then convert to MP4 etc? In this case I read that we can create 600x600 pixels files and that will be displayed as thumbnails.

Some tools claim to have fixed it for UHD, but its only fixed for SOME players. The Oppos still see the glitches and randomly drop out.

@rdgrimes Do you think if MakeMKV or CloneBD could be further improved, the OPPO UDP-203/205 players could play "Seamless Branching" Atmos/TrueHD audio within the MKV container without dropouts? The reason I ask is that the OPPO UDP-203/205 players can play Atmos/TrueHD audio in the MKV container without any dropouts, I only seem to have audio dropout issues with "Seamless Branching" titles like Midway, since it has been around for 6 years you'd think the ripping tools would be able to fix this, I had heard that forum member @SamuriHL reported that CloneBD was much more effective than MakeMKV in ripping to MKV files effectively eliminating the dropouts issue but in my experience CloneBD was much worse, unfortunately DGDemuxGUI wasn't able to eliminate the audio dropouts at all but better than CloneBD.
There was a fix implemented recently for LAVFilters concerning Atmos/TrueHD Seamless Branching audio dropouts here https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilter ... 3693941456, the commit fix https://github.com/Nevcairiel/LAVFilter ... da7170820f, the fix refers to "Account for a padding gap at seamless branching splice points when bitstreaming TrueHD", do you think this could be implemented in MakeMKV or CloneBD?

It doesn't really work like that. When moving a seamless branch title from m2ts files to mkv files, some of the timing information is lost (I'm vastly oversimplifying here). The issue is that frames overlap and/or have gaps. The way they are stored in an m2ts container is different than how they are stored in an mkv container. Your player will need to deal with it. The problems with ripping seamless branch titles with MakeMKV were fixed quite a long time ago, and using any player using LAV Filters will play them without issue. This is why I ported the LAV Filters code to CoreELEC Kodi a few months ago. M3GAN 2.0 was a prime example of the issue which is no longer a problem for any builds that incorporate the LAV Filters code. The issue is not with your rips.

@samuriHL Thanks for getting in touch, are you sure that there isn't any issue with my rips as like I said they do exhibit differences, in that CloneBD has more audio dropouts with this Midway Region A Lionsgate Blu-ray title than MakeMKV or DGDemuxGUI, DGDemuxGUI exhibits less dropouts but I also understand that the issue is with the OPPO UDP-203/205 players finicky imperfect handling of "Seamless Branching"Atmos/TrueHD audio with MKVs but it is still quite strange that the OPPOs have no issue with audio dropouts with Atmos/TrueHD in the MKV container with "non-Seamless Branching" titles, it's not even an Lionsgate disc issue as Ballerina has no audio dropouts on my OPPOs with its Atmos/TrueHD audio track.

I keep seeing you make this "if the LAVFilters code were implemented in" comment. NO. It does NOT work that way. LAVFilters is about playback, nothing more. It has nothing at all to do with how it's stored in an MKV.

CloneBD, MakeMKV, and DGDemuxGUI all deal with seamless branching in MKV slightly differently. CloneBD is, to my knowledge, no longer updated and should no longer be considered. Back when this was an issue on Blu-ray and TrueHD, CloneBD was at the time the best solution. However, ATMOS has slightly made things more complicated. MakeMKV handles seamless branch titles just fine. DGDemuxGUI deals with it slightly differently but none of this matters to your player in the slightest.

As I said before, your player is not capable of properly handling seamless branch titles in an MKV container. If you want to avoid this issue, don't use MKV with that player. You can NOT fix this in the MKV so that your player will handle it properly no matter what program you use. Short of completely reauthoring the TrueHD/ATMOS track, anyway, and that's way outside my area of expertise plus the tools to do that are not cheap.
