Read Errors While Ripping Criterion 4K Seven Samurai – Fails Midway with “L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR”

Hi everyone! I’m having trouble ripping the Criterion 4K UHD Blu-ray of Seven Samurai using MakeMKV v1.18.1 on macOS (Apple Silicon). I’m using an LG BU40N drive in LibreDrive mode.

I’ve tried so far restarting the computer, reconnecting the drive and downloading and placing the latest KEYDB.cfg file in ~/Library/MakeMKV/ as suggested in another thread but it still fails... MakeMKV takes a while to decrypt the disc and does show some errors during that phase which is uncommon for me, but it seems to eventually move forward and start saving the title.

However, around one hour into the MKV conversion, the process fails with multiple read errors and ends without saving the file.

Is this a sign of a bad disc or could it still be a software or drive compatibility issue? I can play it just fine in my player, and I tried other discs and they all worked fine in MakeMKV, just this one has this errors. Would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions.

It could be. Please clean the disc before attempting to rip it again. It doesn't matter if it is brand new or looks pristine, just give it a clean!
