Three Colors Criterion Collection - anyone else having issues?

Hey there, I've been trying to back up my just-arrived 3-film set of Three Colors from Criterion Collection. Halfway through backup, MakeMKV reports uncorrectable errors on both the Blue and Red UHD film. However, White just so happened to be fine on the transfer. Is anyone else seeing this behavior? Any tips to fix? For example:

Is this a USB-powered device? Have you made sure it has full power, powered by individual USB ports, rather than combined ones (sharing a single power input)?

This is not an external USB drive, it's an installed drive. I have also been able to back up the blu ray copies of all 3 films just fine. the UHD of White worked fine. I just can't get red or blue UHD to back up properly.

That error indicates the optical drive was unable to correctly read the disc. The standard advice is to gently clean the disc.

I can certainly give cleaning the disks a try. All I did was open the packaging and immediately put the disk in the drive, so on my end the disks are factory new but I suppose cleaning and praying can't hurt

I can't tell you how many times we've heard this. And I also can't stress how absolutely 100% irrelevant it is. As though discs come from the factory completely flawless. They don't. In fact, I've had fingerprints on brand new discs. More common than not is an oily residue from the mfg process of these discs. If cleaning the discs don't work then the disc is defective or you have a drive problem. If they are triple layer discs, some drives read them better than others.

I agree with SamuriHL. The need to clean brand new discs is not uncommon. As such, I use plenty of water and liquid dish soap. I also take care to gently use my soapy fingertip in a motion perpendicular to way data is written on the disc. Data on the disc is a giant spiral, like a vinyl record. So, I move my fingertip from the inside to the outside via the shortest path and back again. I slowly work my way around the whole disc, rotating the disc as I go. Remember soap and water are both cleaning agents and lubricants during this process. After a thorough rinse, I dry the label side with a towel and dry the data side with a can of air. This way I touch the data side of the disc as little as possible.

Triple layer UHDs can hold 100GB of data in the same physical space as a 700MB CD. The data density is very high by comparison. Small scratches or other obstructions on a UHD can destroy a lot more data than the same sized scratch on a lesser disc.
