Oh, sorry... I don't have the oppo player yet. (I've order the chinoppo m9201 but it hasn't shipped)
if it's not just an issue related to the C2 only, I expect the same issue because I think the oppo and the x700 have the same SOC.

ok - thanks ... I'll give it a test tomorrow on my CX and C1.

By the way, do you prefer the x800m2 instead of the oppo 203 (or clone) ?

The L1 brightness changes are totally different than the C2 internal plex and the Shield but L2 looks exactly the same on all the devices.
Do you have an example of this behaviour? Are the changes just subtle instead?

The only thing I noticed is that the C2 internal player clipped white brighter than external HDMI devices.

I never owned an oppo (or clone). But if I had to choose I would go for the x800m2 because of DT-DL TS support without any bug.
And I'm not a fan of BDMV folders or ISO storage (not practical) but that's just my opinion and if it turns out the oppo doesnt have the bug described in these videos, I will get one for sure.

sure, here are videos showing exactly what I'm talking about. There's clearly something wrong.
I'm curious about your firestick...

Sony X800m2 (so dim that you almost can't see it for L1):

Unfortunately, "hdr=none" cause the LPCM audio to play as stereo
That is so weird, but Apple is stupid so it's hard to tell.

Good spot, yes, same with Oppo (set to TV-led) and G2 (different than internal Plex).
You also mentioned FEL, what about it? I guess you mean internal players, just checked the Spartacus-Gladiator mix FEL on the Oppo and it works fine.

You know they overcomplicated the spec when there is no single player which plays all DV profiles in all containers without bugs.

Tested the mp4 version:
On CX it works perfectly
On x700 L2 trim_offset does not work.

L1 works well in CX
Much less well in x700 (you can barely see the changes).
Same results in x800m2

Fel works but I meant I can't use my x800m2 anymore now that I know about this bug. L1 has a much bigger impact on the picture quality than FEL.
So for me, it will be the internal plex player of my C2 for everything. I thought maybe I can live with the red push so I gave a try to the Shield and checked the Dr. Sleep little girl scene and Oh boy, because the colors are a lot more saturated on the C2 than the C8, the red push is even more noticeable and it looked horrible.

Thanks for testing, but does the L1 works on Sony+C1?

Hmm, I'm not happy either about L1. Do you know if it is used frequently on UHD BD discs?
And yes, Shiled is only usable with profile 5 mkv, nothing else.

o yeah, L1 is mandatory for DV. L2 trims are optional and a lot of movies have only a 600nits trim pass and I'm pretty sure our 900nits TVs are not getting it so in this case it totally rely only on L1.
plus L2 is only really useful when the content is brighter than your TV capabilities.

Both of the FireTV sticks are the same.
Only "L1 higher contrast" does not clip like the C2 internal player, "L1 lower contrast" is just dimming the sky.

It's not really clear which is correct behaviour.
As the C2 player makes it clip out detail while external devices seem to tone map to a minimum peak limit.
It would have to be tested with a higher and lower brightness clip, to see if it reacts differently.

The Sony still seems to not work for "L1 lower contrast" either, but the sticks do.

Is the sky clipping all the time with the Sony? It looks like that in the video.
The sticks never clip.

I see a slight change for every L1 but it's almost unnoticeable if I'm not 1 feet close to the TV. I was more focussed on the brightness changes but IIRCC both sony dont clip at all.
I think the C2 internal player clip more than the C8 internal player though.

I dont know about the firestick but In my mind, there's no doubt the x800/x700/oppo are wrong. It's quite obvious in the madvr out sync version of SM clip i did.
theres a lot more clipping on the x800 than with the C2 internal player.

I confirm your findings. there is a lot more clipping on the x700 than on CX internal player.
