If you got 11GB into the rip, the problem isn't with the decryption keys. Read errors are most likely the cause.

When the drive says it cannot read the disk, cleaning is the first step.
I tried a few times though and it consistently got an error about 11GB into the rip.

The discs are brand new, so I'm wondering if my drive needs cleaning? It's weird though because I tried ripping a different 4K movie in my collection after that, and it ripped the whole movie without a problem.

What's the easiest way to clean an optical drive?

If you read through If you're experiencing rip errors, please read here first!, you'd see that "New in package" isn't such a good indicator of "clean". There are links in there for dealing with proper, safe cleaning of optical disks, even when the look clean.

Easiest way to clean a DRIVE has been explained by Billycar11 in a few messages here on the forum.

I'll second Woodstock's statement about brand new discs sometimes need cleaning. I bought a brand new UHD last week and the disc failed to rip on three different drives. After two cleanings, the rip made it considerably farther.

I returned my set to Amazon and had them send me a new set, and I was able to rip Star Trek 3 without any problems now. I haven't tried the others yet though.

Hmmmm

My TV broke so I gave up on my blu ray player and just bought an external drive. It plays dvds no problem but my Star Trek Blu ray just crashes my vlc. Tried running makmkv but got the following:

MakeMKV v1.16.4 win(x64-release) started
Using LibreDrive mode (v06.2 id=4ACF8047C3AC)
Error 'Scsi error - HARDWARE ERROR:TIMEOUT ON LOGICAL UNIT' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE BP60NB10 1.00' at offset '24123275264'
udf: node fe/efe failed!
Error 'Scsi error - HARDWARE ERROR:TIMEOUT ON LOGICAL UNIT' occurred while reading 'BD-RE HL-DT-ST BD-RE BP60NB10 1.00' at offset '655360'
udf: UDF mount: disc not properly formatted or damaged disc (rootdirs failing)

The disc played fine in my original blu ray player. Do I need to update/patch my libredrive?

Your drive is not getting enough power use 2 USB cables or get a high powered hub like this: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00 ... VXLJ&psc=1

Thanks! That did seem to help. Now my issues are:

Title #00254.mpls has length of 53 seconds which is less than minimum title length of 120 seconds and was therefore skipped
Error 'OS error - This device does not exist' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00800.m2ts' at offset '14550300672'
Error 'OS error - The volume for a file has been externally altered such that the opened file is no longer valid' occurred while reading '\Device\CdRom2' at offset '14550300672'
Error 'OS error - This device does not exist' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/01068.m2ts' at offset '0'

I've changed the minimum duration to 1 now. I've only ever used Makemkv once before to rip the standard definition Trek dvds. I didn't have any problems that time round lol. ;-p

Thanks for the advice.

I managed to back up all the extras and half of the movie (albeit in German) but it rejected one file. "Backup done but 1 files failed hash check"

I can, at least port that into my Adobe Pro without the sound, which is something I did not think would work without first converting to MP4, so that is something at least! It looks pretty decent.

My device seems completely unreliable though. After a few attempts to back up in English, it now isn't even recognising that a disc is in the drive. Sigh. I will have another go at the weekend

My understanding is that there is also a separate music track. Where might that be located?

I cleaned the bluray disc again and I had another go with the latest version of MakeMKV but no luck. Ran into the same issue as before. Backs up as far as Ilia's death with only the German soundtrack.
