Adding AAC conversion to custom profile?

Post by casperse1 » Sun Sep 09, 2018 8:13 am

Hi All

I have used MakeMKV for many years and I bought it after a week :D
My main goal was and is to archive my DVD collection without any quality diminishing
But I wanted DK subs to be standard and all audio tracks as original

BUT I have noticed how well AAC works when streaming with PLex and I would like to get some help in incorporating this into my profile?
-5:(forced*(eng)),-5:(eng),-10:(dan),-15:(forced*(dan))
I have created a new profile : C:\Users\admin\.MakeMKV\my_aac-st.mmcp.xml

And I found this as the AAC profile, but I need to include all the org traks also, looks like this profile also converts surround to 5.1 AAC?

How can I incorperate my profile :
-5:(forced*(eng)),-5:(eng),-10:(dan),-15:(forced*(dan))
With the below one:
app_DefaultSelectionString="-sel:all,+sel:(favlang|nolang|single),+sel:lossless,-sel:(havemulti|havelossless),-sel:mvcvideo,=100:all,-10:favlang"
In my new my_aac-st.mmcp.xml file?
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

Re: Adding AAC conversion to custom profile?

Post by casperse1 » Sun Sep 09, 2018 2:51 pm

SO - Anyone how do I get the new AAC track to be the default (I am keeping the old AC3 and it keep being set as the standard track?)
The blow profile is working EXCEPT for the AAC to be the new standard track?
<!-- Common MKV flags -->
<mkvSettings
ignoreForcedSubtitlesFlag="false"
useISO639Type2T="false"
setFirstAudioTrackAsDefault="false"
setFirstSubtitleTrackAsDefault="true"
setFirstForcedSubtitleTrackAsDefault="true"
insertFirstChapter00IfMissing="true"
/>

<!-- Settings overridable in preferences -->
<profileSettings
app_DefaultSelectionString="+sel:all,+sel:(mvcvideo),+sel:lossy,-sel:(havemulti|core),+sel:(attachment),=100:all,=95:eng,=90:dan,=75:(forced*(dan))"
Any help would be greatly appreciated :oops:

What you are looking for is easier to do with other tools, like handbrake or even mkvmerge.

When you want to force a specific track to be played by default, it is important to make sure it is the FIRST track of its type (audio, subtitle, whatever) for maximum compatibility. Many players IGNORE flags, in favor of track order.

MakeMKV is not particularly good about moving tracks around like that. The profile settings allow you to select conversion, but it does not choose the track order directly.

Personal recommendation: Have MakeMKV rip all tracks for a title, and re-arrange their order with either handbrake or mkvmerge.

I like to have my DVD is org format so I don't want to use handbrake, and I know that MKVToolNix can do it but it seems like double work :D
What about using the value in MakeMKV to have the new AAC track have a higher value than the org audio track?

It works great for subtitles so why not for Audio?
Setting first audio track "false" and using the "+sel:lossy" should move the audio track up right?
<!-- Common MKV flags -->
<mkvSettings
setFirstAudioTrackAsDefault="false"
/>

<!-- Settings overridable in preferences -->
<profileSettings
app_DefaultSelectionString="+sel:all,+sel:(mvcvideo),+sel:lossy,=100:all,=95:eng,=90:dan,=75:(forced*(dan))"
If this is an impossible task in MakeMKV then please let me know, but sofar I have seen people do "impossible" things using the existing tools 8)
BTW this is for PLEX and sofar the default sub setting have been working perfectly, my hope is that audio would also function

Also the AC3 had a bitrate of:
Format : AC-3
Format/Info : Audio Coding 3
Format settings, Endianness : Big
Codec ID : A_AC3
Duration : 47 min 14 s
Bit rate mode : Constant
Bit rate : 192 kb/s
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Channel positions : Front: L R

The new AAC has a bitrate of:
Audio
Format : AAC
Format/Info : Advanced Audio Codec
Format profile : LC
Codec ID : A_AAC-2
Duration : 47 min 14 s
Bit rate : 140 kb/s
Channel(s) : 2 channels
Channel positions : Front: L R

Is there anyway to bump it up to a minimum 192 kb/s in AAC?

Bump....

No smart profile way to make AAC the default track in the MKV and the orig track second? ... :(

Any way to just select only ENG and DK to be converted to AAC?

Only seen it right now...

The way profiles work - firstly you specify all possible output per track type. This is done on track type basis (i.e. stereo, lpcm, etc). This is done on track settings level.

Then you select necessary tracks and assign order - this is done by selection rule (which can be specified in track setting as well). Since you have override for each track settings, you can specify track weight as well, forcing aac track to go up and original track to remain unchanged (or go down). Same for language selection - you have to specify AAC conversion for everything, MakeMKV will create AAC tracks for all languages, but you can specifiy custom selection logic in track setting causing these tracks to be always disabled for all languages except ENG and DK.

Hello everyone, sorry for stealing this post.
I'm new to makemkv & this forum.

I'm backing up my blurays but my TV only plays AAC audio.

If I use makemkv "default" it takes about half hour (but I can't hear sound)

If I pick aac profile it says its going to take over 20 hours.

What am I doing wrong?

All I want is to back up the movie in the best quality with aac sound, anyone help me?

@casperspe1

You can change the order by changing the order in the XML, just put AAC at the top

<!-- Keep stereo AAC unchanged, add downmix for multichannel -->
<trackSettings input="AAC-stereo">
<output outputSettingsName="aac"
defaultSelection="$app_DefaultSelectionString"
audioMix="stereo16">
</output>
<output outputSettingsName="copy"
defaultSelection="$app_DefaultSelectionString">
</output>
</trackSettings>
<trackSettings input="AAC-multi">
<output outputSettingsName="copy"
defaultSelection="$app_DefaultSelectionString,+sel:all">
</output>
</trackSettings>
