Forced Subtitles

Post by angelgraves13 » Fri Mar 11, 2016 10:55 am

Feature-Request

* Apply Forced FLAG to Forced Subtitles (if they exist)

This should be automatic and will greatly aid in identifying created subtitle tracks in the MKV later.

Please add a "f" flag next to "d" flag. "df" Default/Forced to Forced Subtitles

FORCED is a flag on individual subtitles within a track, not on a track itself.

And the default flag on subtitles is ignored by most software for some reason, but you can tell MakeMKV to set it through profile settings.

I've found it depends on how the disc was structured. Sometimes forced subs is flagged as default. sometimes not.

'The Da Vinci Code' (UK Blu-ray) for example has forced subs and they are flagged as default out of 6 possible selectable subtitles.

Matt, are the subtitles flagged as forced within the track? Or is the track that contains "just" what would be considered forced subtitles marked as "default"?

There is a difference.

If they actually have forced flags set, the track MakeMKV creates for "Forced only" should have them in it. If the "forced only" track is deleted as being empty, they're not flagged.

Lack of flags means it is a good idea to re-order the subtitle tracks to make sure the "correct" (smaller) track is first, regardless of whether or not the "default" flag is used. And that means you sometimes have to employ other tools.

That's what I'm saying. They should also be marked as Forced.

Sometimes they're not the default track and may be its own track.

"Forced" can only be set by the author of the subtitle track, or if you pull out a subtitle editor and make the changes yourself. MakeMKV will handle forced subtitles, but it doesn't make them.

As for the default flag, MakeMKV can set it, but not flexibly - it's something you put into a custom profile, and it's just the first subtitle track that can be set as default, which may not be what you want.

But Mike will read your request, so maybe there is hope for something that can be set via the GUI...

It has it's own separate track in this case.

Sometimes when Makemkv picks up the 'forced' branch as containing subs, it's parent is identical.
